Graphic Cards A Question?

ATI's X1900XTX has more Shader Operations Power only in the rest of the areas 7900GTX is more powerful.

So why does everyone on TE says X1900XTX is better.
When u talk about a min of 50~60 fps in any game today (with a little scaling down if need be) then the most powerful card isn't always the best...
What it boils down to (and smething I've been hollering about for for the last 6 months here) is IQ, IQ and IQ :ohyeah:

Its the image quality that makes ur card worth its buck.... not the bloomin fps cause we don't see that.. frames shouldn't stutter is all...

The X800XT knocked the pants of the 6800 series due to IQ... Ditto the X1900 series..
Ofcourse NVIDIA claims to have overcome the HDR+AA limitation of the 7800 series with the 7900's... but we don't see that do we?? :P

Udit you must understand, almost all the new games which are gonna come out next yr or so, are gonna be shader intensive games. ATI excels there, not to mention as Switch said HDR + AA. Nvidia's way of doing AA is highly effective performance wise, but it lacks the IQ of ATI. ATI has a superior color reproduction also.
Think of it this way, would you prefer playing at better IQ @ 45 fps or slightly lower IQ @ 50 FPS. It again depends on you. So if both cards were similarly priced go for ATI. But then again the card which is priced lower would be better VFM.
Also one more thing to note that if you are planning use Linux stick with Nvidia.

thanks a lot.
now I understood why people like ATI.

^^Nah they could never do and will never do HDR+AA. Its a hardware issue and the hardware is not capable of doing it. They can do it via software but there is a huge performance impact hence they havent implemented it. Supposedly G80 will be able to do it.

Integer based HDR (fp10) is possible with AA like hl2, whereas fp16 hdr with AA is only possible with the x1800/x1900 series.

About that at certain angle thing i think you are talking abt HQ-AF or angle independent AF.

Isnt the 7800/7900 Series able to do HDR+AA now?
Except at certain angles :S.

IQ is a different thing all together.
Nah not at all.... We're trying this right now with a pair of 7900's... Forget angles.. They can't at all... And when I asked Nvidia guys about this they wouldn't comment... typical BS...(intended to start flame wars here eh :P )... Any takers???
