Typical scenario at TE market-
Member A creates a WTB thread for product Z, bumps it to hell n back, yet there's no response for days. Member B creates a FS thread for product Z a few days later. Soon, there's a whole queue waiting to purchase from member B. Finally, member C snags the product. Member A has come across the thread a tad late & hence he's missed the bus. Now, he's back to bumping his WTB thread...

Suggested solution-
Create a separate WTB section altogether, & make it a part of etiquette for members to go through the section & approach the relevant members once before posting a new FS thread.

Possible objections-
No one can enforce this - Well, the suggestion is not to make it a rule. Rather, it may be mentioned as the proper etiquette to be followed in the rules. Even if it is made a part of the rules, no one can check/ensure adherence to the same.

I'll sell to whoever I choose - At the end of the day, the seller has the right to choose the buyer. However, the suggestion is being put forth based on the belief that TE is a community first, & a market later. The deals are not meant for profit per se [there's a dealers section for that] but mutual benefit. So again, no one's stopping the seller from choosing the buyer, but this may help make the transactions fruitful & more meaningful for the community as a whole.

You can't expect me to check every thread ever created - Just checking the latest threads, i.e those bumped in the past two days, for instance, will suffice. After all, it's at the seller's discretion.

What if there's 2 or more people having WTB threads for the same product? - Well, why not PM both & the then decide the better option?

* The suggestion is only meant to give more meaning to WTB threads. It'll enable those members who want to give 1st preference to members with WTB threads a quick & easy way of checking the same. *

Thanks for your time. Ciao!

But do think abt this too.

1. its the seller/buyer's discretion always whom to sell and from whom to buy.
2. Do u have any idea how much will u get if u take a product Z to ur local dealer for a buy back or exchange?.. or u put a ad in ur local newspaper for it?. do it once and think abt the not for profit part.
3. Use the search button mate... if the buyer is still looking chances are he must have bumped it or kept the thread open...:bleh:
4. And only think this will achieve is a little bit order. it be organised. Even after this, Person A will still create a WTB thread for product Z and bump it. Person B will create a FS thread for product Z and person C will take it before Person A will see the thread.:S. After all its a free world.:ashamed:

See, people dont even read the complete thread and posts made by the OP before PMing him. i got wrong PM's...i have got PM's after i sold the stuff..

But still nice suggestion though, i like it because it will make the TP more organized. a sub forum for WTB.

Let it go on as it is, your suggestions makes it !

IF the WTB person is really interested in buying a item off the market section then he would surely use the search option. Advance search option gives the option of "Find Threads with Prefix [IC],[GO],[WTB],[FS]".

A typical WTB person

1. Search the market section with help of Advance search.

2. On not finding the item, post a WTB thread.

3. If anyone post well and fine:yahoo:, if not before bumping "Search the market section again with help of Advance search."

My suggestion would be To put up a Advice saying "Before Bumping your own thread pls check the market section with help of ADVANCE SEARCH for similar item put up for sale"

^^ That's hell of a smileys in one post :ohyeah:

On Topic:
I agree with the OP. This will surely make the market section more organized. Thing is I myself have/had many threads of WTB but due to the poor response they are buried deep down. Now if I need something too badly, I would bump it up everyday. But if I am not in hurry then I would bump it once in a while.

Also, there are many people who have things to sell but they just don't list it either because they are lazy or they don't have time. But if they see a WTB thread I have seen them replying 'I have blah blah and willing to sell for Rs.xx'

I guess earlier when there were few buyers and sellers having a separate section wasn't necessary. But now since TE has grown and the market as well, I guess it will keep it clean. :)
