According to a latest WSJ (Wall Street Journal) report, Acer is preparing to enter the ultra cheap budget tablet segment with their upcoming Acer Iconia B1 tablet. Aiming for an early 2013 release, the Acer Iconia B1 will cost $99 only on arrival. Let's read on for more details.
Acer Iconia B1

The Acer Iconia B1 is a part of Acer's new strategy to make budget devices instead of very high end ones with bigger profit margins. Volume sales seems to be the new push in Acer's strategy. And this $99 Android tablet, if done right, might be just the device required for the right push.

Acer Iconia B1 Specifications

  • 1.2 GHz dual core CPU, unknown SOC
  • 7" (1024*600) resolution display
  • 170 ppi pixels density

The Acer Iconia B1 is targeted at developing nations only. This is despite being approved by FCC only recently (sorry US, you no have $99 tablets yet). This is again Acer being on the right track, as developing nations are more than interested in a budget tablet by a big brand company.

Now we can only hope that Acer doesn't compromise too much on quality and end up with a far too mediocre device altogether. The coming CES or MWC will tell us more about this device, hopefully.
