What's your Budget? (e.g. >30K, not more than 50K etc.)
Between 40k-50k
What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? (e.g. web surfing/office apps/Casual Gaming)Internet surfing,MS office,Games(Need for speed series,Delta force n others),Audio n video
What size and weight considerations do you have? (e.g. Do you want a 17" desktop replacement or you want an ultraportable 12" or something in between)
I would love to have 15 or 15.4"
Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? (e.g some would prefer to stay away from Acer or Dell)
Prefered brand:-HP,DELL,Lenovo
Any other considerations? (e.g Battery life; Widescreen/non-widescreen; Glossy/Matte screen etc.)
One MAJOR consideration for selection is it's sturdy build material n plam rest area,i need somthing in line of thinkpad material, being a feild guy it gets very hard to maintain laptops having silver color on key board n surrounding areas,i am currently using COmpaq m2000 series and it's silver from in side, full of straches and silver color has faded out from touchpad cause of thumb impression, thats why i have selected Dell's Vostro n Lenovo R series think pads,HP used to come out with laptop of same materail, but lately i haven't seen any model on their site,Black is the only color option i shall opt for.

I need your views on this configuration:-
Dell vostro 1510
CPU:-C2D t8100 or C2D T 7250(Price difference is rs 2175 between the two)
O/S-Dos
RAM-4gb(I read through some topics and got to know that 3gb is more then adequate for XP,but i tend to make the configuration future proof as much as i can and the upgrade costs 1800 rs)
HDD-160 GD SATA
Graphics card:-here lies the confusion, the NVIDIA GeForce 8400m GS with 256 mb costs 3223 rs more then default Intel x3100,i shall be playing noraml not so heavy graphics games, mainly racing games on laptop,i read it's not worth while paying the difference for 8400m as it doesn't adds the value in proportion to it's costs, but dell provides only this option for upgrade in grphic cards,CAN I OPT FOR OTHER CARDS IN MEDIUM PRCE RANGE WITH VOIDING THE WARRANTY FROM DELL.
Network card:-what is diffence between dell 1505 wireless-n mini card and del wireless 1395 mini card the price difference for upgrade comes out to be rs 808,is it worth paying for the difference or 1395 card will do.
This configuration will cost 39,750(Without NVIDIA) and exl of tax.
What are yur suggestion on dell vostro reliabilty over all and suggest ne adequate configuration. If i have missed out something,i will add to it later on.
Other laptop in consideration is LENOVO R61 think pad:-
Lenovo India - More details for your ThinkPad R Series: 8932A38
Cheers!

Does dell provides upgradation option of hardware later on,like graphics card,
Can i upgrade the hardware 4 or 5 months down the line?

For ALL Laptops:

something like RAM/HDD, YES.

Graphics, laptop graphics CANNOT be upgraded.

In that case if i use a external graphics card(Bought from market),will it void the warranty offered by dell?

Any suggestions plz on the laptop

eh.. you dont seem to get it. either you can opt for a gfx card from your lappie vendor or not. you dont have ANY other choice.

you CANNOT add a gfx card to a lappie after buying it.

My mistake,typed it wrong,
by external i mean the cards bought from market not from vendor (Like dell),
So if i am getting it right,if i buy Vostro with intel x3100 graphics card,i won't be able to plug in new cards like Nvidia 8600m or Ati card after purchase?
If i am wrong plz correct me.

Thanks in advance

Got is friends,

Graphics card cant be updated in lappy, sorry i was bit confused and ignorant to a large extent.
So now i have two options Intel X3100 n Nvidia 8400 gs?
Where should i put my money or dell guys can give me more options for G cards,

Again pardon my ignorance in previous post

@stalker,
Thanks for ur advice n help mate,
I have aleady mentioned in my last post, that i got to know it can'e done.

What about the other two options i have?Which one is better valur for money offer.

you could either buy the dell inspiron 1525 with gfx X3100 or Acer 4520 with Nvidia7000m for moderate gaming.. with gma X3100 you will not be able to play even the mid end games.. so its ur choice in the end what exactly you want the laptop for.. if you budget is above 45-50k you could buy the Dell Studio which could be fair for moderate gaming..

depends whether u want to game or not. If the lappy is for normal use then the Intel will do. If u wanna game on it then the 8400GS, tho its not that gr8, if ur heavily into gaming then u need to seriously up ur budget n look at higher end laptops :)

sorry about that.. just take a look at the timestamp on my post and your consecutive posts :P i posted after leaving the page open for a while.. guess i missed your last post coz of that..

anyway.. on topic.. i would go along with what techie just said. gma3100 for the extreme low end. if you wann be able to play any recent games at low to mid settings then it'll have to be the 8400gs. dell will offer you only the choices listed on their online configurator mate.

since you have a budget of 40-50k, also consider the inspiron 1420. a collegue of mine recently picked up one for 43k all inclusive with a 8400gs.

nd since you mentioned a sturdy build among other requirements... ive have heard various ppl complaining about the low build quality of the vostro series. the inspiron afaik does not face such complaints.

Latop shall be used 95% for non-gamming operations, and i am on strick budget, for rest 5% i shall be playing normal racing games like NFS carbon n delta force,so for moderate gamming Nvidia 8400 gs wothwhile?
Ram shall be 4 gb,Cpu-t8100 c2d,160 gb sata HDD.
Will this configuration suffice noraml to average gamming needs?
i think it's getter to get a dedicated console for gamming.

its always better to hvae a dedicated gaming rig/console :P

the 84gs should be easily able to handle moderate gaming with medium to low settings.. infact.. the 4gigs of ram would be an overkill.. especially considering the 95% office usage.

I am considering 4 gb instead of 3 gb taking into account the future,so that there is no need to worry about future, moreover 1800 difference between two is not much,,
what say?

cant really comment on the future until its here.. can i :P

if that 1.8k could help convince you to go for a discrete gfx, then i would suggest that you save on the ram nd add a bit more for the gfx. normal desktop apps aint ever gonna need soo much ram..

especially considering the type of games you play, the extra gig of ram aint gonna be too helpful

unless that is you wanna do some very heavy duty rendering/photochopping/video editting that is..

@stalker,I am going for 8400gs for sure,This is only better option i have in GFX in Vostro 1510, and all black laptop is the only thing i shall buy cause of my travelling,so inspirion n XPS are out of race.
what about processor:-options are t8100(+4350 rs on T5870),t7250(+2175 rs on 5870),t5870.

for the rest.. wait for others to comment :)
