^^ hey bottle can u tell me where did u source the cinder blocks? and a picture of the setup would be nice

my dads in the construction business so had a few lying around and got it filled up with cement and squared nicely .. not painted yet so looks messy as of now

Hey guys,

Finally did my work this weekend and assembled the cinder block stands. I got the road divider stuff from a nearby place. Got 12 blocks, glued pairs, each stand is 3ft high with 3 pairs each. Each stand weighs 150 kilos now :P Its movable (since i've not yet cemented the entire stand) piece by piece and needs 2 ppl to carry. Painted them myself - Red didn't come out well. Might do a spray paint in future for glossy finish. Currently the rough look goes well.

The sound has dramatically improved - particularly the highs and mids. I can feel why ppl are so adamant on pairing these speakers with stands.

Bass isn't improved at all, coz i think the stands are too heavy to absorb the bass. Perhaps if i move them a bit further away from the wall, bass might kick in. Anyway i'm more than happy with the sound so far. :D

Ugly, but cool :ohyeah: Why don't you try turning them around, so the flat side faces the wall?

See man that stands steal the whole room's thunder man. I mean those frames look so cool & so does that round lamp. I totally appreciate the effort you took. Also I have no idea weather you are a student or ur working so I wouldn't comment on costlier wooden blocks. But if in the future you could manage something looking better and doing the job it would look better overall. On a lighter note why didnt you go with the black yellow black theme :bleh:

Well point taken...but i kinda liked these cinder block stands. They are currently in the room for the rock party...Will move them to the bedroom later.

In future whenever i get home theatre setup, i can always get the 'usual' elegant and pricey stuff

Wow whatta a TE combo - Carpentry and Cementry :D Noida construction ppl look out!!!!:lol:

OK, I've resisted commenting for a long time.

They look like sh*t. Not kidding you here dude, whatever their function, the form spoils the whole intention.

Also, since you've 'cemented' the blocks together, you effectively have two 'joints' in the stand. I'm not surprised you're having issues with the bass.

Here's what I would do.

1. Set the speakers off the stand. Use silicon or rubber grommets available locally, rubber feet, anything. The speakers are being overdamped by the weight of the stands, some isolation will help.

2. Get a grinder from somewhere and refinish the block surfaces, and then use POP, wet sanding and acrylic emulsion to finish them off. Doesn't help anyone who's listening to them, but it looks a lot more presentable and professional.
