Airtel to Bring iPhone 3G to India

Bharti Airtel & Apple have announced that they will be bringing the highly anticipated iPhone 3G to India later this year. We’ve all been expecting the original iPhone (first generation) all this while but surely no one will be complaining if we get the 3G version directly. It’s a separate story that 3G doesn’t matter until the service providers start providing 3G service. iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking that is twice as fast as the first generation iPhone, built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.

iPhone 3G gives users ever faster access to the Internet and email over their cellular network with quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA for voice and data connectivity around the world. iPhone 3G supports Wi-Fi, 3G and EDGE networks and automatically switches between them to ensure the fastest possible download speeds. The new iPhone 3G also makes it easier to multi-task with simultaneous voice and data communications, so with iPhone 3G you can browse the web, get map directions, or check your email while you are on a call.

Doesn't matter who gets it first here. Though I doubt both will be getting it together because seemingly Vodafone has already penned a deal. Or is Apple trying to make its product more popular by providing it with multiple service providers ?

Whatever it is ... but a competition in this aspect means competitive retail prices and better schemes and offers. We are only to gain from this.

No estimation of the pricing still. Must keep a close eye on this.

Cant wait to get my hands on this one.

both vodaphone and airtel are going to sell it in India.
If you go by the dates that the two operators had announced in the last few months, Airtel will launch it around Diwali. Vodaphone had initially put a date of around Christmas, but I'm sure they will aos pull up.

i dont think they are going to stick to the $199 price point in India. They will most probably come up with some mindless 22-25k pricing initially :p

Those articles are still just speculations are sound more like a pre release rumor.

Rather wait for the official press release by either Airtel or Vodafone.

Its not the company .. those are the Indian laws for import duties and etc.

If not for that I bet Apple would have happily retailed iPhone for under 16k because it retails at 300-400 $ in the US.

Both, company + indianlaws & duty structure, thats the reason they insist for india warranty card to claim warranty. Shuld our indian gov make mandatory for these so called giants to provide warrany irrespective of any destination warranty card. For not having 3G in india the solely 100% gov is responsible.
