Despite the marginal increase in costs, the educational institutes will have to shell out less than Rs 1500 ($31) per tablet, as the government will subsidise 50% of the tablet costs. Eventually, the device will be available to the consumers and the cost of the device is likely to be around Rs 3000 (including all taxes).

^^ This will cost just 1.5k and is not intended for Touchpad audience.

Actually, the price has been revised now. It is up to $45 now, and retail sale is supposed to be at $60.

$99 for HP Touchpad

Not for Normal people. When it comes in ebay or shops it will be I guess 14k :P

And 2999 reatil price with calling/phone and EDGE/GPRS support is quite nice for basic audience :)

The target audience is students and they will get it at 1.5k, the retail price for others is 3k.

While we awe at the fact that a device actually sees the light of the day at such a price point, there are plenty out there who have devised ways of profiting from it through hoarding and black marketing. Considering the govt. is involved, there are bound to be contracts given, favours exchanged, and money changing hands. Lots of it.
