The government just banned AliBaba and AliExpress in India.

Not happy about this. I agree China is being unreasonable and needs to be curtailed, but banning sites at which common man can access affordable stuff and increasing tariffs on everything is not the way. We are not going in a good direction, I think.

Thoughts ?

EDIT: It looks like only the app is banned, if so, it makes sense, they may be capturing a lot of unwanted data, if the website is banned as well then its a different story.

this govt don't have any clue in business and finance.
All these stunts are for getting vote, very soon India will be boycotted ( actually this process had already began - Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership). big corporate are already flocking to SE Asia, heck even to Pakistan after Arab & Russian open support.

For normal citizen of china, quality of life cant be comparable with India. And china has made a position so strong that they have the balls to do anything. china is becoming the new pakistan for Indian politics.

then how we will be Aatma Nirbhar (AN) - without setting up ground infra - Govt wants to ban the sites/products and continue to promote the AN program. There is flip side of this - see what happened with PUBG - it got banned earlier and now returned with Investment as if all of its sins/deficiencies gone with the investment it had made (something similar one political party did while releasing RAEES of SRK - I hope we all know that)

One thing we all missed is - China is manufacturing hub for the entire world - we can not simply take down that hub in a moment or with these ban - it will require strategic planning and longer run to curtail Chinese things

I dont have much details but I thought it was only the app that was banned due to data privacy concerns. We should be able to buy stuff using the website if the app is banned unless I am missing something.

is Aliexpress is banned or the App ? will they be blocking the website ?
For now its only the app, no information is available on if the website is banned. Let's wait for a few days and see if this is some election theatrics or a shift in policy.
