Was browsing thru altec's european site, and saw these new speakers (well, new to me at least). The FX5021. Altec Lansing Products: FX5051

They have 2-way satellites with a 4mm driver and a tweeter. The sub has twin 6.5" drivers in an isobaric config. So it should be quite good. Plus, they have a USB soundcard built-in. Seems quite interesting.

Don't know if they're available here, though.

Yeah i saw this in the Altec Lansing catalog here. The 2-channel version FX5021 was listed too - forgot to ask about availability :ashamed:

I for one would lament the lack of RMS. The MX 5021 are brilliant, but I'd gladly pay even 5-6K more for say a real 150 RMS...

^^Plus high sensitivity speakers if you want them driven loud :P. 150W with an 86dB 4ohm dyn or thiel is hardly anything :P.

not 'real' but real...You know what I mean...I'm talking altec 90 WRT 150...:P
purposeful misunderstand there uhh... ;) edit...zhops too I see

These speakers are around 13.5K. Good nice sound but a little expensive compared to the quality mx5021 offer at 8K.

Obviously.....I was just wondering if they could be a better alternative to the z5300

The z5300 lacks extreme highs. second problem bass persists even if u turn it off. Ditto with the z5500d.

I used both speakers on the x-fi platinum while on holiday (speakers are in Jabalpur) and they rock...these two problems aside...In other words you need to play around with bass settings even on the soundcard to get them to sound right. But no PC speaker I've seen matches the MX 5021 for highs, even the FX6021 loses...
