Am3 cooler on am 4 motherboard.

I have an old asus triton 77 cpu cooler in mint condition, tried to mount it on am4 board. It sits well , but unable to turn the latch to lock the hsf
It is pretty tight as it is, can it be used without locking it.

I made these mounts to use a Thermalright HR01X, meant for Xeon LGA771 processors to work on AM3.

I made a similar mount for AM4 once I moved on to Ryzen as well. Something similar will work in your case and this will be 100% secure.

Guess what? Old am3 cooler clip works well.
Took out the clip from an old am3 stock cooler and attached it to the asus 77 triton + asus x570 board.
Moral : don't throw away old coolers.
