AMD to cut 1,400 workers, new CEO's first big move - Yahoo! Finance

The article suggest AMD's failure in the non-PC market as a reason. That and the slowed growth in the PC market. Its very clear where the focus of the company is going to be in future: The lower powered platforms, trying to fend off ARM attacks. Seems like the mid and high end PC market is going to be an Intel only territory.

This if true is a very sad indicator for the PC enthusiasts market. We wont see rapid improvement in the bulldozer architecture as shown earlier. One thing is clear ARM is increasingly growing stronger, and I hope the X86 license will not shield Intel for-ever...

and then we suffer with a lack of innovation and over priced products. Competition is what kept that in line.

What are the morons thinking? Their CPU division has been faltering a lot, especially after the bulldozer fiasco, but its the GPU division which is helping them to float?

Why do I think this is a demise of AMD as we know it, and they are going to relegate themselves developing low margins but high volumes mobile chips going forward.
