Following the launch of three new low-cost chips from Intel earlier this week, AMD has announced its latest round of desktop processor price cuts. While the latter’s Phenom parts are still unable to compete with Intel on the performance front, the battle is usually all about price in the mid-range segment of the market.

AMD has slashed a considerable amount off the price of its Phenom X4 9950 BE, which is now $186 down from $235 – by contrast, Intel’s Core 2 Quad Q6600 is the company’s cheapest quad-core processor and it’s currently listed at around $193. Other reductions ranging between $8 and $45 were made to AMD’s triple-core Phenom X3 and dual-core Athlon X2 lines; you can check them out in detail after the jump. All in all, this latest round of price cuts will be welcome news for anyone looking to upgrade their systems.
