Hello Lads :)

Upgraded my system, cpu & mobo

CPU : AMD Phenom II X 4 955 BE !

Mobo : Gigabyte (GA-MA785M-US2H) :ashamed:

Problem : Wrong readings in Coretemp ! & CPUID Hardware Monitor ! :@

In coretemp & CPUID Hardware Monitor it shows AMD Phenom 2 X2 555 & & In CPUID Hardware Monitor it shows AMD Phenom 2 X2 555 with just 2 cores :( !

But in CPU-Z & System Information the Readings are Actual !

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As of NOW -

-UPDATE -

Updated the BIOS, but theres some serious issues

Temps are kinda HIGH , fan speed goes upto 6850 RPM sounds like a jet engine

temps 65 @ load & 55-60 @ idle , Therez enough ventilation from the CABBY !!!

& when ever i game, like COD4 or even CS2, the temps skyrocket from 50 - 65 in bout secs !!! -------- UNSOLVED -----

In cpuz it's showing only 2 cores as well.
Check your bios settings, update your bios. If that doesn't fix things RMA the processor.

Tried updating the BIOS,

Source : VIA @BIOS Utility, when i click the UPDATE TAB the screen hags & BSOD ! :( !

Which bios version are you using right now? It'll show when your comp is posting.
If it's anything after version F5, the problem doesn't lie with your bios. 955BE 125watts is supported since version F2, and 955BE 95watts is supported since version F5.
Is windows showing all 4 cpu cores?
Open task manager or device manager and check.
You're using an X4 955BE, right? Not an unlocked dual core processor?
It's weird that cpuz is showing the processor name correctly, but also saying that it has only 2 cores.

Silly ME ! SOLVED :P

the other 2 cores were DISABLED by default ! ( in BIOS, i,e core 2 & core 3 ) Unchecked it & VOILA :D

Thanks all for the Support ! & Guys should i re-install my OS ???, coz previously i was on Intel e8400 & Asus Mobo ! Now that 've changed to AMD & GIGABYTE MOBO !

How did you manage to boot into Windows in the first place? :O

Yes, reformat and reinstall ASAP. This also explains why @BIOS crashed the system.

Reapply the TIM(thermal interface material) - use a good quality TIM like Arctic Cooling MX-2 or try Shinetsu thermal pads--amarbir's lynx has it @ Rs.60.

^ I've already did so :(

@ first thought that the HSF wasn't installed properly & cleaned the TIM & applied MX-2 it covers the processor thoroughly & reinstalled the HSF firmly.

Wat else could be the problem ?

Hope you didnt put too much TIM. Also check to see if your proccy is a C2 or C3 revision. The C2 runs noticeably hotter, but yours is really bad.

TIM should just be a little , spread it out over the CPU.

@RD274- intel systems OS can boot successfully on amd machines bt the reverse isnt possible.

@hector19- god what fan you using which shoots the rpm 6500+++???:S:S
the amd stock compound is very good and keeps temps very low bt you might have improperly mounted the hsf.
Even your mobo sensors might be at fault. So better check by physically touching the hsf whether it really feels that hot while the system is powered on.

@ mav2000 : Well, mine is RB-C3 Hopefully ! & i've applied the grease correctly over the cpu.... not less or more its Adequate.

Getting on my nerve tried playing CS:source, just when i click it & the logo appears, the fanspeed goes up & noise emits & temps skyrocket to 65 from 55 :(

@ ronit : am using the stock HSF ! & i checked it by touching the copper pipes & they were HOT, i mean really HOT !

i'll reseat the HSF & apply the grease all over again & revert ! but before that , i noticed in Coretemp that all my four cores were running @ :3.2ghz ( 3214.46 MHz ) ( 200.90 X16 ) even @ 02 % of usage :/ ( all the time )

core voltage is 1.456 is that stable ?

monitor your temps & speeds in AMD OverDrive Utility which will give you a clear picture of what happening.

also are you applying the paste in a p[roper manner. Applying techniques are different for quads & dual cores so do check some tuts before re-applying.

You might benefit from this::D

application of thermal paste - what is the correct technique - Cooler-and-Heatsinks - Overclocking

so try the best from above and yes be PATIENT coz after applying the paste it might take some running hours to actually seal the contact between the hsf & proccy thus only then you will notice the difference.:):)
