Android/Windows Phone for an Uncle - upgrading from a nokia 6610

This is for an uncle(noob). He wants a fast phone with good display and battery life. Will call, text and probably indulge in some social networking.

2. Q: Preferred Form Factor(flip, bar, slider)?
A: Bar

3. Q: Preferred display type?
A: LCD, AMOLED

4. Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them.
A: No Indian brands

5. Q: Preferred input method (Touchscreen, QWERTY, etc.)?
A: Touchscreen

6. Q: Camera required or not? If required, please specify type like front camera/flash/etc.
A: Decent camera(Megapixels do not matter, the quality should be decent)

7. Q: Preferred operating system? (Android, Symbian, iOS, Windows Phone etc).
A: Android, second choice Windows

8. Q: Preferred connectivity options? (3G, Wifi, Edge etc).
A: 3G.

9. Q: What is your intended use for this phone(internet, camera, multimedia, mails, etc)?
A: Calls, text and internet

10. Q: Any other requirements?
A: Good battery life is required. Will prefer buying from the US and getting it shipped(if there's a phone that meets the requirements)

11. Q: If you have already considered a phone then please mention the model.
A: Samsung Captivate I897, Pantech Burst, Samsung Focus

Pantech Burst would have been the ideal candidate if only it had a decent battery life. I've read people cribbing about the battery life even when data is turned off.

Samsung Focus. Big icons, very easy to read. If Android is what he wants, then Captivate is a good option.

Would anyone comment on the Burst's battery life wrt to calls, texting, some multimedia and little internet surfing on 2G?

Battery life of Burst is average nothing good or exceptional, with some casual gaming and little surfing.
It will last a day easily with some tweaks and so called battery savers though.

@Nalin - Is it better than getting a captivate? Please keep in mind that the user is a noob. btw, congrats on getting the One X

2kool2btrue : I can't comment on captivate but hardware specifications is better on burst and software support is better for the former one.

Thank you Nalin and vivek.krishnan! Finally ordered the Burst after Nalin and Arjun from the thread here - http://www.techenclave.com/mobile-phones/t-pantech-burst-discussion-thread-139452/p27/ addressed the battery life concern.
