i live in college hostel and we have a wired LAN setup with 140 computers...

but when i copy files from the network computers my speeds are as slow as 3-5 MB/s and never cross more than 11MB/s.

I tried Teracopy but no difference in speeds...

Is there any way to improve my copy speeds??

Most probably your lan setup is 100 Mbps which translates to to maximum speed on 12.5 MB/s and your pretty close to that. Assuming your computers have 1 gbps lan ports, you could change all your routers to gigabit routers like Amazon.com: D-Link DGS-1008G 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch: Electronics. You will also have to get the correct cables :- Category 6 cable - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . If the computers do not have 1 gbps lan ports, you will have to get 1 gbps lan cards as well. All in all you are going to have to spend a lot!

^thanks mate.. so i'll have to be contended with those speeds.

i saw this 1 Gbps lan connection in the computer centre of college..

Lan Admin said they give only 10/100M connections..

So i bought D-Link 5 port switch a year back...
