my powersupply can give max only 30-35 mins backup at one time (full battery drain)

how is the software saying that it gave 1 day and some hrs of backup supply when it switched on only 4 times  and all the four times i switched off my comp within 5 mins to save battery power.

the software looks like crap to me - is it really required or can i uninstall it?
windows battery indicator seems to do the job pretty well enuf regarding amount of battery time left.

apc users, have u ppl seen something like this before?

^ ya it's a bug with the software ... infact I'm having problems using it with vista, the pc doesn't hibernate even if the time runs out, shuts down directly :(

Here is an APC joke....

I got the SmartUPS 750va a little while back and Powerchute shows the amount of backup time available to my system as 130minutes !! I filled in a request on APC's site for assisitance and was contacted by them via email - they suggested to get the correct amount of backup time I should drain the battery completely and the UPS will set itself to show correct available backup time. So I did just that and after about 20 minutes the battery was drained and I checked in Powerchute and no luck still 130 minutes showing.... APC rep then suggested not to connect computer but a fan or bulbs as a load to drain the battery .... I did that and still no luck .... then the APC rep said that the drain load has to be a minimum of 30% of the UPS's capacity for the UPS to show correct capability - did that by adding more 100w bulbs... still no luck..... then the APC rep said that the drain load should be at least 40% of UPS's capacity and it will work fine... SORRY ....no luck ... and then the APC rep said ... get this....that I should not be draining my battery more than once a year as the Battery will get a permanent damage if drained too often... and I had already drained the battery 4 times that week :O

... and that is why my UPS shows my backup time as 130 minutes for my setup.... at least this year.... :(

wow that was great!

my and what logic by the apc cc :" not to be drained more than x times a yr" :death:
then whats the use of a battery backup if it cant be used? :p

I read the same info about NOT completely draining the UPS's battery more than once or twice a year in the Powerchute manual which I downloaded later from APC. I think the problem is the same as deep discharging a Nicad battery. Normal charge discharge cycles may be OK but not a full discharge.... maybe someone else here will know more about this complete battery discharge problem.

was searching the net and found this helpfull page about diff types of rechargable batteries and care

takecare.htm

i think ups batteries are the sealed lead acid batteries type. @eazy u were right abt not draining them fully.
