Asus O player or a Blue ray player

I would be buying a LED this diwali. So wanted to upgrade my old DVD player as well. Had 2 options in mind -

1. Asus O player or WD TV live
2. Blue ray player

Few questions i had

1. Would i get 5.1 channel out if i go with O player ?
2. Is there any difference in output video quality ?
3. Running cost, as in cost of procuring movies ?

I have been using Asus O!play HDP R1,

Pros: Support for all major formats, eSATA,LAN connectivity,+1 for remote,VFM.

Cons:No playlist support, lazy menus,takes more time to switch on/off
 
Xtreamer for the worth bro.. Supports everything but has a sucky after sales support... Still i doubt u will even need that.
Everything u want, d players got...
 
Does Asus O player have any inbuilt HDD or Storage like WD TV Live ?

What's are the prices of both players with same amount of storage ?
 
I have been using a Seagate Free Agent Theater+ for almost a year now & have found no problems with it.

I have hooked up my Z5500 Digital speakers to it, via s/pdif optical cables.

Full HD videos etc work like a charm, menu is not at all sluggish & neither is the HD playback.

Only gripe is that the HDD bay supports the Free Agent Go drives, which r really hard to come by these days.

that question can only be best answered by you mate... if you intend to buy blueray discs in the future, get a blueray player cause a lot of led's(samsung mostly) these days can play mkv and other formats anyways so u wont really need a media player.
If ur pc already has a bd drive, then u can make bd iso's and play em on a media player, in that case media player is a good option.
Look, between a media player vis a vis a bd player, media player will always support more formats. It really comes down to personal convenience now. FTW, ur led itself might end up supporting all formats that u need...

Do check out WD live hub. Comes with in built 1 TB hdd. It is also compatble with various wifi dongles so that you do not have to stick with proprietary wifi dongle like xtreamer. The best part is the user forums, there are plenty of hacks that you can modify wd.
 
I didn't see any Asus with in built hard disk. Choosing Asus or WD depends on you budget, seagae theatre also a good option. One more issue I am having with my Asus HDP R1 is fast forward and reverse is not proper.
