Hi friends. I want a torrent downloader since I have to carry my laptop the the university.

I have 2 options, either PogoPlug Pink(install archlinux and enable ddns) OR ASUS RT-N13U (dd-wrt)

I dont need any other services from these boxes except torrent downloading (if i buy asus it'll be my official router as well). Also need to check the currently downloading torrents and add more torrent sitting in other town. This is the kind of job I want to get done.

Also, I have BSNL BB750 UL plan which means I dont have a static IP. I know DDNS will come handy here but does asus router supports it?

PogoPlug

Buy from US no warranty

Will eat additional power (router and modem already will be consuming)

lot of linux support

a little cheaper than N13U

Asus

3 year warranty

My home network will be an N network

Wont eat additional power

DDWRT powerful support

dont' know If its a good subsitute for pogoplug pink since I'm going to use as torrent downloader only.

Please guide what shall I go for?

If its a torrent down loader only you are after, the ASUS will do double duty as the torrent downloader + router. But if you want to do from cyberlockers, the the Pogoplug is better.

Just remember the plug requires a router also to work.

As far as DDNS is concerned, it is there in almost all the routers.

DDNS is broken in DD WRT so keep that in mind.Also keep in mind Arch Linux wont be of much use if you just plan to use transmission

You mean rapidshare etc?

I have a D-LINK wifi router + a BSNL modem at home so I have a router based network already in place.

If I dont install DD-WRT? Won't the torrent downloader built in the ASUS firmware be of any rescue here? + DDNS would already be there in official firmware? any other options like tomato etc?

transmission? I dont get it mate.

Transmission = Linux BitTorrent Client.

The official firmware torrent client is pathetic once you pause the download it does not resumes on it own and its completely broken.

No Tomatto support.

DDNS is not broken in DD WRT (was able to do a remote WOL), but i feel in the official firmware. But for this will need to flash the router with DD WRT :sigh:, set up all the passwords and mac filtering stuff. Will report back on this by tomorrow.

I have the RT-N16 router. the torrent client is crap, you can download a few torrents but reliability is worst. I just use it for occasional torrent downloads as I dont download much nowadays. looking to flash it with a custom firmware sometime.

So what do you recommend?

Also, I got this on googling DD-WRT Forum :: View topic - Asus RT-N13U B1 mod (r17201)

Mentions that DDNS is working. Since I wasnt able to understand the glossary used, need your help to understand if DDNS is working.

Please do! I'm waiting!

That mod is the worst I have seen it results in frequent reboots and auto unmounting of drives HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED
