ATI released a X1800XT bios which set the core to 700 from 625Mhz and the memory to 800Mhz from 750Mhz.

It was said that the raise should generally work on all X1800XT cards. Now it seems that the higher clock speed need a change at the hardware level.

The cards would need more MOSFETs to ensure a clean and stable power feed. The BIOS should still work, but users are advised that the upgrade could drastically reduce the lifespan of the card.

Hmm.. Good news for owners of it.

Cmon reduce lifespan? By what? 2 months max?...

Anyways people who have x1800xt's are crazy and will upgrade as soon as r580's come :p..

ts saying drastically reduce the lifespan, considering average lifetime of a highend card to be 4 years, I would say this would reduce it to 3 years. Any case over the upgrade cycle for ppl who buy these cards.
