ALTHOUGH SOME web sites reported that the upcoming R580 chip will come in three different versions, the fact is that R580 chip will replace the R520 line entirely. The new products will be named Radeon X1900XL, X1900XT and X1900XT CrossFire Edition. There is a rumour of another naming convention, with the names X1900XT ("T" instead of an "L"), X1900XTX (The Boss, King, Macho) and X1900XTX CrossFire Edition (albeit a little slower clocked than a big boss).

Besides this plain vanilla 3D boards, ATI will also rollout the refresh of All-in-Wonder product, which actually - was the reference board ATI is actually using to demonstrate the R580 chip to its valuable customers and partners. We haven't been able to confirm the clockspeeds of the product, but since we learned that new All-in-Wonder demo boards come with 1.26ns GDDR-3 memory, it isn't too hard to figure that possible memory clock for X1900XL(T?) is 1.5 GHz, giving out 48GB/s of bandwidth. That would be clear 16 GB/s wider than current AiW model, based on R520XL chip.

It looks like ATI wants to give every pixel to get the performance back... so the R520 will rest in peace after only three and half months. October 5th 2005 - January 24th, 2006.

Crap... Absolute..:D

This is the way of rewarding ATI faithfuls who bought a $500 X1800XT over the 7800GTX

I dont get what Anish said? :S.

x1800xt is performing almost as well as the 7800GTX 512 now :S.

Plus AVIVO is free and PureVideo isnt :/.

What Anish meant was that this is sad for those people who supported ATi over nvidia and bought eh highest end cards from ATI only for it to be "outdated" so soon....

it would.... I am not agreeing with Anish....

And for those performance greedy fellows, they can always sell their almost brand new cards to someone else

OR

They can do the good thing and donate it to me :P

Dont talk abt the fact that my system is AGP and most of these cards are PCIe.

Well, I am actually..... I have only a 17" monitor and at 1024 x 768 with everything maxed out, I get more than 30FPS on NFS MW.

Only Q4 struggles at the same settings. Gotta turn AA down a bit

Vsync also enabled..... what abt you??

With Vsync disabled, I get around 40.....

How is that?? The X800XL cannot be sooo far ahead in terms of performance can it??

At what CPU speed are you getting 80fps?

Well, I shifted to NGO 81.95 modded drivers. CPU at 2.45Ghz, RAM at 204 2-3-3-6.

GFX at 414/1140.

And I get avg of around 40 now. A little bit more than 40 actually.

But I have the feeling that my comp itself has slowed down over the past 2 days. Dont think this has anything to do with the actual performance though. Let me see....

I will be shifting to my room in another week or so and after my major exams get over, I will clean my comp(there must be more dust in there than the actual weight of the components :P) and remove the cooler, reapply AS5, etc...

I also plan to find the oc'ing limits of my RAM and tune my comp for max performance. Have not been able to do all this till now. The RAM tuning, I have been postponing coz if the timings are too tight, I need to reset the BIOS and that is a pain.

Anyway will plunge into this after exams :D
