Bangalore Central selling fake formal shirts?

Folks, some time ago, I had purchased four formal shirts, of which three were "Turtle" branded and 1 was a "Louis Philippe" from Bangalore Central. All the shirts read 100% cotton. I did not bother to actually try them on at the at the store.

However, when I tried them at home, except for one Turtle that felt somewhat ok, the other three did not feel comfortable at all. The Louis Philippe was the biggest disappointment and I'd paid over 1.8K for that damn shirt. The turtle shirts weren't cheap either @ 1.4K or so. All the shirts felt scratchy and warm and that too in Bangalore weather. I shudder to think of trying these shirts in Bombay or Chennai weather. In the end, I felt that these shirts are just not 100% cotton but a mix of some kind and I am being duped into paying premium price for a not so premium product.

I thought that the feel might improve with time till a friend complained of a similar experience. I am now beginning to doubt the quality (of formal shirts at least) of stuff available at Bangalore Central. I know that most of the stuff is made at Mafatlal or similar textile factories and simply branded but am wondering whether at all, there is any quality control done by these brands. Also, it it really disappointing to have to spend so much money and defeats the very purpose of buying at high end retail outlets.

To be honest, the shirts that I've bought over the years at cheaper stores in Bombay have turned out far better and I'm re-thinking my purchasing strategy.

Have you guys had similar experiences? Any suggestions on good places to pick decent formal gear that is value for money and real cotton?

They can't sell fake shirts. Its highly improbable. Maybe it has something to do with the fabric you purchased. There are different types of fabrics available even in Cotton shirts. Louis Philippe is anyways overrated. I prefer Van huesen to it.

Buying 1400 & 1800 rupees shirts r only in ,my dreams!..just wearing those locally available 200-500 rupess shirts only& @peace of mind, total VFM, but then@hindsight i think i'm NOT foppish enough like all other guys here!

the ones at cotton world at barton centre are nice enough...but locally i go down to trippur and pick a whole bunch of shirts for 1500 rs :P

Turtle shirts are good.I have about 5 to 6 of them as bluffy said it might be the problem with the kind of fabric u got.

In case u r looking out for good formal wear shirts and pants, check out the store named Twinkle which is in utility building on MG Road.I stopped purchasing at malls coz i feel the stuff over there is kind of overpriced.I have been purchasing all my clothes at Twinkle from past 2 Years .They have a real good collection of formal wear.

Arvind mills in bangalore is the best VFM when it comes to shirts. All the excalibur, Auburn hill shirts are manufactured in Arvind mills. There is a factory outlet of AM in bangalore ( I forgot the name of the place ) where you can get the Rs. 800 excalibur shirts for as low as Rs. 250 without the excalibur tag.

Now I suspect something fishy at the store since you say Turtle is good. Thanks for the info on Twinkle. I will check it out as I need to get some good formal trousers.

A colleague also mentioned Excalibur as one of the better brandds for shirts. Good to know about this. I'll be on the lookout for shirts manufactured by Arvind Mills. I think some brands carry manufacturer details.

All Excalibur, Auburn Hill and some other brand shirts and pants are manufactured here. So for less than half the price you will get everything in the same quality but there will be no brand tags. So if you can live with no tags then its a steal. The quality of shirts and pants is pretty good too.

there is a place called marthahalli in b'lore which has a ton of factory outlets.

I stick to 500~700 rupee cotton shirts. And they are real cotton. I'm allergic to anything else . If you want to spend 1.5k on a shirt, by provogue - their shirts are by far the comfiest :D

Just returned from M.G.Rd, could not locate this Grace mansion, so called up tha above number, which was routed to this new number: 080-25593159.

The guy who picked up told no such deal exists, and its a marketing office and not a sales outlet. Also told only wholesale deals are done here!! :S

Any lead on this please?

I do not remember the exact name of the place ( I am a Delhite ) but it was a factory. Not a factory outlet mind you but an actual factory where the apparels are manufactured. I'll call up my friend and get back to you with the exact location. Also this was more than one and a half yars back so its quite possible they stopped such deals.

I went there. The collection was really good.. But their average prices for a shirt were 1500 and many were around 2.5K. I just ended up buying one.. I dont think they are any different from blore malls.
