I'm looking for a good car which will be primarily driven by me and will be chauffeur driven in long trips. Must be petrol and auto gearbox. FE is also not a concern. Usage will be light not more than 10k kms/year

It should be very comfortable especially in the back seats and should have all the modern features available.

Budget is flexible but still it shouldn't exceed 12L OTR.

I had short-listed a few models but not sure which one should be the best choice..

1. VW Vento TSI
2. Nissan Sunny
3. New Honda City (whenever launched)
4. Fiat Linea T-jet
5. Ford Fiesta.

Except for Fiat Linea all are available in Auto gearbox. CVT/Dual Clutch. I'm not in a hurry to buy it so can wait for any upcoming model if its worth.

I don't like Hyundi Verna ride quality & the auto box is only 4 speed :( I'm inclined towards Sunny too although the features aren't that much as of the competition.

checked.. Nissan closed its showroom in Nagpur :( seems like to go for Renault Scala. how is it different from sunny (service and after sales)
Nissan/Renault FE is also higher in Auto gearbox than manual.. should I go for Scala?

Same car. Expensive than sunny. Since their agreement is whoever uses the others car needs to price it higher. Maintenance cost no idea. Must be similar, which in case not that high. In ones you give VW and Ford has the highest cost. I am not talking from 2 or 3 year ownership experience. European and Americans will start eating your purse after 5 years. (Our garage has a skoda yeti, Nissan Sunny, wagon R LPG( replaced soon hopefully with the ecosport Yaay!!! or Figo meh). And my family is using European and American cars from 70's here and abroad.

My dad's Non Indian marquees used in India that i am old enough to remember are Benz(87 to 93 model E's), VW(94 or 96 model passat), Opel(Astra and Vectra), Ford(Escort), Rover Montego or something(Turbo charged BEAST of a machine).

I do not plan to keep the vehicle for 5 years+ so less worries of the maintenance costs. VW Vento offered the best quality so far, rear legroom is also decent and engine is also good. the overall package is good. but Nissan Sunny offers endless legroom similar to Indigo XL which is only plus for Nissan.

When I was getting the car my list were Vento, Sunny, Rapid. In that order.

But I dont plan to change cars often as I am not rich enough to do that. :p. Also took the test drive with my parents. Mom loved the Sunny. Rapid was out coz we already have a skoda and the same as vento r8? :)
Between Vento and Sunny it was hard. Vento is ze german. Paint, build qlty I loved. But the cost and average qlty of drive didnt make me fall in love. And also, too many in roads.

Sunny I loved the space inside and the color. The red sunny is to die for. I love anything with red. All my bikes and car are red. :D. so is any other things i own.
Drive qlty was average. the Gear shift sucks. I am used to spotless shifts. This failed me there. And Vento again offered arm rest for driver, this doesnt.

But picked sunny. Reasons 1. Its a Japanese. I want one. I never considered City as its too common.
2. It comes in a shade i liked.
3. Since this car will anyways be used by my parents and my mother prefer to be seated in back seat. Sunny had a big plus there.

I am not so technical or acceleration when it comes to vehicles. Its the individual feeling of driving it, road presence and colors that makes me want the machines.
When getting my p200. I picked it over the karizma coz the red in it was bit too dark for my taste. :)

I finally got my hands on Scala CVT, didn't liked it.. Rear legroom is fine but the transmission feels unnatural.
seems like no other options than VW Vento.

^^

Good choice with the Vento. Since you dont plan to keep the car more than 5 years, go for it eyes closed. :). Get the extended warranty.

Update : booked VW Vento TSI on 14th November forgot to update in this thread. Final price was 10.9L ex. insurance :D although no discounts or accessories.. didn't even provided with floor mats/mud flaps. but i'm not complaining. have read that people pay >12L OTR for this in Bangalore. so for the price i'm getting its definitely good. Did i mention its including extended warranty ;) upto 4 years/100k kms

I will be getting 2014 Production model in January as the current stocks are finished and the production will resume on Jan. so by 2nd/3rd week I can hope for delivery. Color I choose is Deep Black will keep it clean and its gonna look killer on road!

Very happy with the decision as this is best enthusiast + practical car. Special thanks to @m-jeri for his experience and suggestions.

Congrats :) I have heard good feedback about their ASS and Road Side Assistance.
I was divided between City and Vento earlier this year and went with City.
Would you have considered the 2014 City which was recently revealed?
No engine change in petrol version, minor exterior changes, moderate interior changes and additional features.

I initially considered city but my research showed that the Honda city AT will be priced higher than the vento.. (speculation) even the new Honda city 2014 is available only in VX variant (11L ex showroom) without dual clutch transmission or turbocharger. so despite having bigger engine the torque produced is less than vento's 1196cc engine. And also I don't like Fludic like design on the City. the vento is simple and elegant :)

We're planning to buy a Honda City 2014. Is it good or are there any better alternatives available? Sorry I've no idea in this segment. How is ecosport comparable? The car will be used for around 50kms+ travel a day and should have a good mileage long with durability on bad roads.
