Forget all the FUD , Find out the Best DNS server for you .
NameBench
It will scan your configured DNS servers and additional servers and find out best ones your your network connection.
First , go here Ipcheck
see that geographical location of your IP is same as location of you computer .
Let me explain .
I am in delhi , And my Ipcheck should show delhi .
But a new IP is given everytime My Dsl router connects to the ISP .IP given to me is chosen from present pool of free IP s that Isp has .
Sometime , it choose an IP which is not at current location , because it picked up first one it found from the pool .
Being from Delhi , I've seen it show , Ludhiyana , and even Mumbai .
So check you IP location and make sure , it is the right one ( i.e. your city )
For major cities , it should be that city only , but for far flung areas , it can be a city where your ISP has Isp node .
If it is not your city , simply reconnect , to begin .
I use ubuntu , and this is for ubuntu .
(It is fairly easy and simple for PC's and macs .)
All right ,we have
1. Name Bench from Here
2. we have made sure , our IP shows the correct Geo-location ( if not , reconnect )
Now
extract the file and execute
"./namebench.py"
In the respective folder .
Rest is fairly automatic , and may take some time .
After that it shows the best DNS server it found for you .
Configure your IP settings accordingly .
Before this I was using Open DNS .
It recommended me
Primary Server_____________202.133.99.11________MyKris MY
Secondary Server__________ 220.226.206.216______Parle IN
Tertiary Server_____________203.90.78.65_________Hclinfinet 3 IN
And it said that they are 30% faster than open DNS .
There is visible improvement in page load times , esp forum pages which make multiple DNS lookups ( eg. pics posted from diff photo hosting sites)
So try it .
Post your results here .
*this isnt a simple ping test .
