if u have WD hard disk try Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics

WD Support > Downloads > Select Product

yes you are right. but once in a while you can always test your hard disk using these tools.

it even tells the power on time of hdd and estimated remaining lifetime of ur hdd (i dont know if other apps do so )

My Segate 250Gig is making that krich-kirch noise.

SpeedFan SMART monitor isn't reporting any problems.

How do I check for bad sector's? Can't use chkdsk as the drive has my OS on it..

hdtune.

Use the scan option to run a hardware scan. no reboot/OS drive issues required.
