Blackberry on Idea, please help!

Hello everybody,

My dad has decided to transition to a Blackberry, most probably the 8310 Curve. Now he cannot afford to lose his number and transition from Idea to Airtel/Vodafone. Hence please help me out.

1. Can he buy a standalone Blackberry device and use the push-email feature with Idea GPRS?

2. Can he buy the phone from Vodafone and get it unlocked and use it with Idea?

Please help guys, he's in a bit of a hurry.

I see no reason why it would not work with Idea! Idea has its own push-email service (called Easy Mail or whatever) and it is supported on all gprs-enabled handsets.

But still for confirming,my advice would be to call Idea Customer Care and ask whether the service works on a black-beryy (which should work IMO)
 
Okay screw pushmail, even GPRS enabled mail will do, but can a Blackberry be unlocked is my primary question.

My uncle is coming down from San Jose, I can ask him to get a handset, but unlocking out here is the question.
