Let me be clear up front – this video is not suitable if your heart misses a beat every time you see a tech device getting abused. With that said, we urge you to take a look at this cool experiment courtesy of the guys from SquareTrade.
gsmarena_001.jpg

They get a hot Apple iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S II and drop them three times from different heights onto concrete. While here at GSMArena we may test everything there is to test on a mobile device, we can’t test how physically strong and durable these devices actually are. So, if you are interested how the iPhone 4S and the Galaxy S II fare on this test, watch this video.

Nice, eh? The result isn’t all that surprising considering the Gorilla Glass display of the Galaxy S II, but this hasn’t stopped more than 4 million people getting themselves an iPhone 4S.

If you were given the opportunity to make such a test which devices would you pick and why?

PS: I can't believe how fragile such expensive things can be. I wonder why no FCC standards apply in such scenarios for product durability, or are there any already?

Wow cool video but not for faint hearted. I myself cannot imagine my phone falling and ending as the iphone did.

iphone 4 and 4s are made of glass polymer , even a kid will know that a glass will break . I dont know the point here , its just a gimmick. Why dont they try iphone 3g or 3gs with plastic back .

I'll prefer being careful with the fragile iPhone 4S rather than being along with the plasticky SGS2

i'd rather use a plasticy sgs2 (and upgrade to optimus prime) than an overpriced fragile Lemon, which claims to change life in USA only with Siri

Siri is a marketing gimmick and the 1.2 Ghz proc on the SGS2 is bliss... ;)

Where the IP4S beats the hell out of a SGS2 with 800 MHz proc and higher screen resolution :)

The point is that the late Mr Steve Jobs made tall claims about the durability of iPhone 4 during its release last year and the iPhone fanboi's have always made it a point to diss about the so called plasticy frailness of the original Galaxy S. So drop and abuse tests were conducted on both phones and it was proved that the iPhone 4 is neither resistant to scratches nor to drops. The original Galaxy S even without the Gorilla glass can endure a lot more despite its frail looks. This new test is just an episode 2 with the newer iterations of the phones.

Coming soon: Apple sues Samsung again, this time saying that their device is infringing on certain patents which allow it to be stronger than their phone!

Aplle responds to the cries of the people who are saying that the device is not sturdy by saying that : "They were holding it wrong."

^ atleast try to sound funny

the iphone 4 is as sleek as they get in terms of looks and you have to take a few steps back in durability to achieve that.the galaxy is ruggid and i dont think it looks cheap at all, dont know which apple fanboys say it looks cheap but in my opinion it looks good.my brother owns it and i have always complimented the slim look.

^^ If I remember right, the Galaxy S II is not only slimmer, but also lighter than iPhone 4 despite the considerably larger screen. 4s has the same physical exterior so that applies for it as well. I think the materials used and the consequential lower endurance of iPhone 4 is a deliberate design choice taken to increase the likelihood of customers damaging their iPhone's and replacing them again with new ones. Its a strategy Apple can afford to use.

and your reply totally contradicts that. i gave a reply based on my observations which are correct instead of commenting with my tinted glasses.come back from your space galaxy boy and than start replying like people do on a tech forum.

yes the galaxy is slimmer and lighter infact i couldnt believe how light it was when i first got hold of it.whether its a deliberate choice ? god knows ofcourse haters will say they did it deliberately and lovers will say they didnt and apple loves their customers.my personal opinion is what makes it look better should be used, durability will take a hit that will always happen because glass will always remain friggle whether it is gorilla glass or as we are talking about now the alluminoscillate glass.apple, samsung and every other company none of them will say that their product is brittle.even in the introduction ad when johnny ive[apple's designer] said that this device is twice as durable as the 3gs and clearly it wasn't,nothing made of glass can be.i also remember when dell introduced the streak even they claimed that this gorilla glass is the next big thing, well it is but i think glass will always remain brittle and i guess we just have to accept that.

Now some Apple fanboi will say that Apple did it intentionally fragile since they dont want to damage the floor:ohyeah:
