CPU/Mobo Broken pin issue

Explorer
Yesterday i got an A-Bit IP35-pro mobo, but while shipping 5 of the cpu pins were crushed:(, i tried to straighten those pins:bleh: and straighted 3 pins but the tip of the two other pins broke and fell off.
Later i tested the board using my E6550, and by the grace of the GOD my system booted, installed Xp on my HDD and ran prime95 for 6 hours (at default speed) no error

OCed my proccy to 2.8Ghz and ran prime95 for 5-6 miniutes, no problem
Played CD black ops for 20-30 miniutes found no problem.

So guys i want to know is it safe to use the mobo? Can anyone tell me what is the use of each pin in LGA 775 socket?
Is it possible to replace the whole LGA 775 socket?

Details about the broken pins:

I don't think only the socket can be replaced, u'll need to replace the entire board.

U are damned lucky to have a fully functional board even without 2 pins.....!!! :P

socket can be replaced.

contact whoever handles the abit service now.

technically any mobo service centre can replace it if they want to.

should cost a couple of hundred bucks

your system will work as not every pin on the socket is useful.

there have been many such cases and people still running their pcs without issues.

^^i read some of those issues, can you tell me the use of each pin?

Tirupati Enterprises handles abit services. Is there any member from Tirupati Enterprises who can help me?

Not sure what you meant by that. Just a visit the Abit Service Center (In this case Tirupati) and get the socket replaced by paying for it. RPTech does it, no reason why Tirupati shouldnt.

^^ mate i am from Assam, and they don't have any branch here, and i can't go kolkata for replacing the socket.
i just want to know that if there is any TE member working in(or associated) with Tirupati Enterprises, who can help with this socket replacing process

After doing some home work found this : LGA-775 socket specification
But i can't get the exact data from this whitepaper.

My broken pins are pin no 20 and 24 (as shown in diagram), please help me guys. PLease refer to page 45-46 of this whitepaper and tell me the exact need of those broken pins.

Really worried :(

@nehaladsul,
the socket can be replaced separately.

For reference i have attached the LGA-775 socket specification:)

This thread is gonna be useful to me. Sorry for hijacking the thread. Even i have my Intel DG965WH mobo lying idle because one of the pins broke and i had to get a EP45UD3R.

I tried a few computer shops here in chennai and they said socket could not be replaced rather the complete board has to be changed.

My mobo did not even boot just cos of 1 pin and its surprising your mobo is working fine. I guess the pins should be making a contact when the processor is in place after it is locked.

^ Yup in OP's case even with broken heads pins have contact with the locked CPU. The socket replacement work can be done at many authorized service centers of respective brands. Try different location and it gonna cost 500-1000 INR.

Guys i spoke to the tirupati guys, but they said that they will not help since it is out of warranty.
They also said that replacing the mobo is not a fullproof solution and the repaired mobo may not work

Tirupati service center guy's had told me once that they don't repair broken sockets, on questioning Prime it was confirmed that Tirupati does not repair Abit's stuff. According to Prime only RPtech does chip level repair or repairing of broken CPU sockets.

Guess what, I had the same board with bent pins but the pins were bent by Tirupati's RMA center so we had it replaced by a brand new board(brought from Taiwan after company's closure!!), hence I know these details.

As they say, if it works, dont touch it. Let it work. More you mess with it, more issues you will get. If it starts to give issues, then think about repair, else let it go. Many electronic items have dummy pins. Its very common. Some even have repeats, for eg Ground or VCC.
