Here're some interesting chit-chats going on in the official Motorola forum on "life-proof" Defy :S

I bought a Defy thinking it would be tougher than another phone. After a few weeks, it took a 1m fall (fell like in the add): now the sceen cracked and a bit buggy. I thought I must have been unlucky, it never happened on any other phone I ever had (and some of them flew 15 instead of falling one meter). I contacted my vendor and had the 150€ change the glass answer.
Then I began to search on internet and this post is the first thing I found. After a few readings it would seem I'm far from being the only one (how many % of users with a broken end up here instead of their local reseller???). I wen't from the "bad luck" theory to the "bad batch" one.
But famous successfull brands advertize their errors and take credit for it, don't they? Who doesn't remember sony's countless battery recalls for example.
and like many others, I'm waiting... waiting ... for an answer that never seems to come (exept paying 150€).
So here comes my next question, 150€ is almost half the price of the phone: am I ready to take the risk of spending that much money in a phone that has proven (to my experience) fragile, and whose vendor is proving not to take any action towards it's customers.
I spent the last month using a buggy phone with cracked glass, my subconsient starting to assimilate the brand Motorola with "buggy phone sold by an unconsistent vendor".
As I see it now, all I can do now is use it till it's total death... A very good point though is that the lack of warranty now removed my fears: I've nothing to lose and will finally be able to install a decent android (gingerbread without the cheesy motoblur).
What will happen next only depends on Motorola:
- Surprise me and fix it, you will prove me I was right to trust the brand: I'll recommend it.
- Surprise me and let me fall, you will prove me I was wrong to trust the brand: won't happen again, I hope they go bankrupt.
The final is a bit harsh i admit, but at least it's true. Phones today get replaced almost every year: if Motorola doesn't try to have loyal customers, it won't!
PS: if anyones files an action to get it repaired, I'm in!
