BSNL to offer broadband connectivity at 2 mbps

NEW DELHI: BSNL will offer high speed of broadband connectivity up to two mbps (megabits per second) to its subscribers who have till now been getting the connection at 256 kbps (kilo bits per second).

Making the announcement at the India Telecom 2006 conference here on Thursday, Communication and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran said BSNL would be offering high speed Internet broadband at the existing price.

He said it was now for the private operators to match it or beat it.

it just says that 256k plan will be upgraded to 2mpbs at existing rates

The official said the ministry was also looking at increasing the speed to at least 1 mbps, introducing new tariffs, and increasing the size of downloads.

2mbps? And I though it would've taken them 2007 end to introduce 512 kbps Unlm.

The biggest question still remains : Will the connect have any limits?

Time will tell, and hopefuly Airtel will counter with better plans.

aaah well would be nice if they do introduce 2 mbps plans ..atleast people on other forums wont laugh on me and pity me at the same time for my crappy plans.... lolzz.

Yeah well..that is True Broadband you know. Other countries have 2+mbps unli plans - In this speed, you just can't settle for limited download.

If BSNL wants to bring out 2mbps with a download limit, fine by me as long as they take out a 512kbps plan fully unlm.
