Whenever i try ics or networking/file sharing between my pc and dads laptop via cross cable, after a minute or while, bsod appears on the pc. Have been dealing with this issue since a yr now. :(

I have tried setting the speeds of both Ethernet cards too 10/100/auto sense but it dint make nay sense. Tried changing the cable bt no luck.

No firewall issue or any virus for sure.

I know a router will solve this issue but i dont want to invest so much in it. Instead will a 5 port switch do the job here and prevent bsod? :S

If so the i have decided upon the foll item: D link switch

Get a router, a five port switch will cost you at least 500~650 bucks, while a cheap wireless g router should be available for around 1k. Plus if not wrong, with the switch, you will need to configure the IP addresses on the PC's similar to what you do now.
