Buying on eBay US/UK Auction queries

I want to buy used phone from a eBay auction(US/UK) and then ship it to a PPOBox address, and they ship to india.
1. There should be no issues with customs if phone is used right ?
2. And PPOBox quotes charges with customs so its good right ?Will they overcharge me afterwards ?
3. Any alternative to PPOBox

If the seller can ship me directly to India and I tell him to mark item as gift, will the customs charge any duty ? If yes how much ?

Any other alternatives, please share
 
Customs will charge duty irrespective of whether it is used or not, unless you are very lucky. Customs will be assessed on the value of a new phone as importing used sets is not allowed.
If you ask the seller to mark a phone as a gift and send it direct to India it is almost guaranteed that the package will be held by customs.
I've had good experiences with ShopandShip, but I think I may be the only one.
 
Yes, every site will charge customs. SnS charges customs once the package has landed in India based on actual amount charged - you pay the customs in cash when the package is delivered.

What does it mean ?They will take it away OR set aside and charge duty on it ?

Well there is a high chance they will keep it, and send you a letter asking you to come down to the GPO. Otherwise the local postman will deliver it and ask you for the customs.
If it is a high value item I strongly advise you to go with a forwarding service like PPO/ICC/SnS
 
No need for IEC if you just want to buy occasionally and using a forwarding service. Hell, even a regular importer like me doesn't have an IEC and I import around 20 phones a month.

From which site do you buy mobile phones ?
I want to buy a iphone 5s (preferably used , last option is new)
