Guys ... i need to confirm info regarding AMD Systems :
Issue : With AMD Systems - When CPU C1E State and CnQ Feature are enabled ( in BIOS ) , we encounter a High % of CPU Utilization during SATA Hdd ( had,nt verified with PATA hdd )heavy I/O Activity { Read Write Activity }

The test in the Following post was implemented using SATA Operational Mode as - IDE | AHCI | RAID - ( Raid 0 Array on SB 700 )
http://www.techenclave.com/pc-perip...5-long-years-advice-152383-6.html#post1327638

High CPU Utilization in AMD Systems can be Verified using HDTACH test.
In the attached ScreenShot ( ScreenShot of Intel E5300-Gigabyte G31|ICH7 )
CPU Utilization is reported as 1%.

AMD users ... please post back your Values Reporting

System Specs & CPU Utilization with C1E State and CnQ Enabled
System Specs & CPU Utilization with C1E State and CnQ Disabled
System Specs to be Mentioned
Specific AMD CPU Model No. - MainBoard Model No. - SouthBrige Model No. - Active SATA Operational Mode ( IDE - AHCI - RAID )

If possible - attach HDTACH ScreenShot -

I Reckon that this - is only happening when AMD Systems are paired with ATI Chipset Mainboard.

Re: Calling AMD Users --- Confirm Info

1. There is no C1E in AMD Systems.

2. For the past week, I'm not able to get cnq work in my system due to some reason, which I'll rectify soon.

3. I haven't seen any high CPU utilisation as you say

Took this screenshot just a few days back. RAID0 - just 3% CPU utilisation.

System config:

Phenom II X4 940BE - Biostar TA760GX 128M - 4GB 1066 GHz Ram - 2 Seagate 500GB HDDs in RAID0.

Yes . u are right . there was no C1E option mentioned in ur Mobo manual.
I had seen that Option in Asus MEA-78-EM ( and just now when i read its manual ... nothing about C1E was mentioned ... anyways ... wud post screenshots tomorrow ... am i getting mad :@ )

So is this ScreenShot with CnQ disabled in BIOS ? ... if yes ... can u confirm that is the same reported with CnQ Enabled !

0% CPU for me. CnQ disabled. But if you enable CnQ, the processor sped is downed by decreasing the multiplier. For my system, the stock speed is 3.1GHz but when CnQ enabled, the speed is .8Ghz. So, 30% of .8GHz means 7.5% of 3.1Ghz.

And I have C1E in my BIOS and AFAIK all AMD boards since some period ( over 2yrs) have this feature.

Note: I had also background activity of HDD (downloading :P) thats why low speed.

C1E is already there in AMD systems but they don't usually call it so. AMD's Cool & Quiet reduces both the clock speed and the vcore, whereas intel has two - C1E and Eist.

No It C&Q was enabled in BIOS, but for some weird reasons, C&Q isn't working for the past week. I'll do this. I'll manually reduce the speed to 800MHz and try tonight.

^^ CnQ doesn work when power options are not set properly.

select 'Balanced' as power option.

if that doesnt help..

then go to advance properties..

look under 'Processor Power Management'

set minimum processor state = 5%

maximum power state = 100%

Yeah checked that, also i had to do a reinstall for RAID0-ing, even after that no use. It happened after a BIOS flash. I need to check more options in BIOS when I get time.

err...

that is bios issue.

i have faced similar issue on my TA790GXBE with some bios.. i do not remember the bios number exactly.

just revert back to known working bios.

yup those have the same issue.

don't use them.

bios for my board wasn't released at that source so had to download from biostar's official Chinese source. That one had the same issue..so i suppose its a bug from biostar's side.

wait for later bios revision.
