Guide
Hello all

One of my friend getting a cam from US. Kindly suggest one..
I was thinking of Sony Nex 3 as it has excellent image quality and Portable..

Do i have any other option available.. max budget is 500$ ..

Looking forward from your recommendations.. basically i need excellent image quality and also be portable as i do treks and other similar activities..

Did you have a look at the Panasonic Lumix range? Since you say portable, does that mean you expect only compact cameras and not even something like a superzoom?

I am ok with superzoom as well.. As said... camera shd be Portable and excellent image quality.. Sony nex 3 is comparable with entry level DSLR in terms of image quality.. so looking something better if any

If you trekking get a compact ultra zoom camera ,the current best is HX9v.It also has one of the fastest auto focus for a P&S camera.

While the NEX will be much better, you have to factor in the cost of additions lens, further more the NEX-C3 will be replacing the NEX-3,the new model has a better sensor with better battery life, its even more compact.

Seems s95 and Hx9v are both amazing cameras. Just checked the reviews and photos.. they are amazing.. Is there any other camera in the same league ? also i couldn't find any answer about which one is better in internet as well... so s95 or hx9v or anyother camera ?

Both should be good in image quality, the HX9v has more features, higher zoom, better video, faster focusing, shot to shot and much better lcd screen with higher resolution and viewing angle.

Pentax K-x is going for around 469$ at B&H, small, discreet, but a true DSLR.

Also look up older Nikon D40s or D60s, good cameras.
I am looking for compact cameras.. Thanks for suggestion though

Get a Micro Four Thirds if you can spot one for cheap.
I just checked some of these types.. the cheapest one is arnd 550$ + i need to invest on lens as i guess the cam just come with body.. costly proposition

i think u can go for TZ20 as others suggested ! they have very effective image stabilization and i own FZ35 and LZ8(gave to Sis ) they are very easy to use and can take good photos with ease.

have look at Panasonic line up: LUMIX Line-up Comparison | LUMIX | Digital Camera | Panasonic Global

and have look at Casio FH100 too it was the best compact zoom camera rated by dpreview

hope it helps :D

I am in the market for a compact and lo and behold it seems for the last 3 months the world has been going gaga at the Olympus xz1. The camera seemed to have received an awesome response since its launch with all the reviewers raving about it. It is supposed to be by far the best compact with some folks at dpreview.com so impressed they are using it more and more compared to their DSLRs.

Its got a thumbs up for outstanding picture quality and its currently selling at $499. See the reviews and drreview and the short review at engadget to get a feel for the quality of this.

Olympus XZ-1 reviewed: $499 for sweet simplicity -- Engadget

I am hundred percent going for this on my next trip to the US, its not launched here yet.

^i almost tempted to go for olypus XZ-1, but the video quality turned me down... Otherwise would've grabbed without any second thought... As i will travel a lot need a cam with decent video quality n zoom as well.. But seems this cam is meant only for photography.. I do get a lot of insight after reading abt this in reviews n various other forums. All the best for ur purchase buddy.. Still i m very tempted.. Damn vid quality n zoom

If someone wants just compact cam then canon S95 is the best option as it will be easily fit into the jean pocket easily.. 3x zoom turned me down ..

Panasonic TZ20 is also an amzin cam but seems lota people had problems after a few months of usage.. Check amazon for the same... Also most of the junta gone for HX9V than this cam.. If someone like panny cam then this will be the best travel zoom cam in the market..

After lot of thoughts and also being that this would be my first cam, i ended up booking Sony HX9V with 32gb card (for 1080p video :)) extra battery n pouch.. Total < 500$ .. Hope i made the right choice... After all it's one's personal choice..

Thanks all of you guys for valuable suggestion.. It really helped me in zeroing on the final master piece .. I ll be getting the cam by 3rd week of june.. Will post my review for sure..

Thanks once again ;)
