Canon EOS 600D and EOS 1100D announced

600D looks very nice.

I love the twisty LCD features... wich my 500D also had that. :).

and whats the deal with IS 2?. Didnt see any difference mentioned.

So will the 1100D priced like 1000D? if so Nikon can kiss their low-end DSLR(D3000) share goodbye. :|

Initial thoughts:

600D: There seems to be very minor improvements from 550D. the sensor, metering system are exactly same. Canon has instead concentrated on the weakness of the rebel series, ie the grip. Initial impressions at DPreview suggests that the grip of 600D and 1100D has improved considerably. In addition 600D now enjoys wireless flash capabilities. Oh and of-course articulated screen. The price is USD 900 with kit lens (which are also new, but no difference optically).

1100D: This seems like a good upgrade from 1000D. It has got 9 AF points (6 Cross type) from 7 in 1000D, I feel this is the best improvement, I am seriously handicapped by the AF points on a 1000D. A 12mp sensor from 450D. A 63 zone metering mode (again a major improvement from 1000D). A better battery (700 shots compared to 500 shots of 1000D). And a better grip, a major gripe according to critics earlier. At USD 600 this makes a very good entry level camera now..

Oh and ofcourse 1100D now has 720p video recording...

The difference with IS 2 would come in liveview mode... 550D and even 60D suffers from slower focus in liveview mode.. IS 2 might solve that :)

^^ Nope it doesnt. Live view AF is more of a processing prob, then a lens problem. Canon only seems to have made the lens more cheaper to produce, without compromising on the optical quality.

Finally 1000D gets an upgrade...9 AF points and 720p video recording is a nice addition in 1100D...and 63 zone metering is a major upgrade...

Are we gonna see an upgrade of 7D in near future?

^^ Of course ! 7D is nearly at the end of its production cycle. Expect an upgrade in the near future. :)

The 1100D will retail between 30k - 35k which puts it in the D3100 territory. Does it have what it takes to be better than the D3100 ???

See the 7D price is down right now. Around 70k in grey for body only.

IF the 7D gets upgraded (possibly by Sept 11 or maybe even later than that) the replacement will sell for its full price of $1800 or so. That means close to 1 lakh price in India and possibly higher given Canon India's crazy pricing strategy.

Are you ready to spend the extra 35k or so for the replacement ?

Just remember that the 7D is already an awesome camera and whatever they come up with next will be only marginally better with possibly more megapixels and a few minor upgrades like the LCD screen and burst rate.

Brendon, I think 1100D will be more like 27-28k... In addition I think its just not Canon but even Nikon India's pricing for higher models is very high. Take D700 for example..

Body only for INR 1.3lakhs

In US its for USD 2300 (INR 1.03 lakhs)

5D mark 2

Body only: INR 1.26 lakhs

US price: 2500 USD

It seems Canon has better Indian prices..

^^ yep, and better control layout and faster burst rate. And I think 1100D would be better then 500D too, I think they share the same sensors.

I think 60D > 50D cause it has a better sensor, full HD video, articulated screen, level sensor, audio recording control, scene filters...

^^ I dont think there is much of a difference in the sensor, but the magnesium alloy body, and dual dial control layout makes a huge difference to me.. And unless you have full AF on video, its a non issue for DSLR...

Well I believe the HD movie recording feature alone makes it a more advanced camera.... And tht 18 Mp sensor which is on the 7D and 550D has proved how good it is in low light conditions...

But D7000 > 60D :P
