Now that its sold I guess it should be find to ask these: Is this a top end dlsr? What advantage does it have over the camera models which costs <50k like the D3000 and D5000 etc which can be bought brand new for 30-40k'ish?

D3000 is very basic entry level.
D5000 is also similar, basic entry level.

D5300, D5500 are slightly upgraded entry level cameras.

If you need "more" in an entry level : better body, better performance etc, check D7100 or D7200. (D7500 is more expensive).

In Canon, you have the 1x00D series for entry levels, then the 700D, 600D etc.

Nikon D500 is more pro in a crop sensor format.
Next you would find the entry level FF cameras, like 6D, 5D2 in Canon, D600, D610, D700 in Nikon.

Then the better FF cameras : 5D3, 5D4 in Canon, D750, D800, D810, D850, D780 in Nikon.

Next are the more pro ones : Nikon D4, Nikon D4, Canon 1DX2/3 etc.

As you go up, the pricier it gets.

In case photography is a hobby, buy used ones to keep your costs down. It is cheaper to upgrade too in that scenario. Also, if you need to opt out of the hobby, you won't be spending a lot in the entire situation.

As mentioned above there are few differences between Nikon and Canon

Nikon till date uses contrast detection autofocus although Canons Mid to Pro level uses both Contrast and Phase Detection hence the Dual AF tech.

Canon’s Color science cannot be matched by any other system not even Sony to which i have upgraded.

Presence of LOG profile is atleast present in Canon and Sony’s Mid to Pro level so you can color grade your footage as per your choice.

Canon's 5D2 is still a favorite for this reason among many many pros! 5D3 also. 5D Classic. All of them.
