I need to know the cheapest legit way of getting Windows 7 and also will it run good on the following config.

Display: 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel screen

* CPU: AMD Yukon MV40/L335 dual core processor

* Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon X1250

* RAM: 1 GB

* Storage: 160GB

* Connectivity: 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Ethernet, optional Bluetooth

* I/O: HDMI, 3 USB ports, mic, headphone, VGA, 4-in-1 card reader

* Webcam: 1.3MP

* Battery: 3 cell battery

* Dimensions: 11.7″ x 7.5″ x 1.2″

* Weight: 2.9 pounds (with 3 cell battery)

Above is the config of MSI Wind u210 netbook i am planning to buy and it comes without OS (at least from where i am buying).

you want windows only or any other free os will also do? for such a low config slax will work fine. download the live slax usb version (around 200mb) and try it.

if windows 7 then the basic version is good for this. home premium requires atleast 2gb ram to run properly.

it would easily run windows 7 home premium or even proffessional with aero3d.

add another gb of ram to make it 2gb and you would get better performance.

btw why dont you go for the msi wind u230 better and faster cpu i posted the details in your previous netbook thread.

You are in china, right, cheapest way for Windows 7, you can check this link and see if you can decipher it right, else you can buy the Pro version which is the best one for your money

U230 is not available here and moreover i may not leverage a better processor.

I have a samsung N110 netbook and believe me wndows 7 ultimate runs smoothly without any problem that too with aero enabled . . .

Intel® Atom™ Processor N270 (1.6GHz)

533MHz FSB with 512KB Cache

Graphic Memory 128MB Integrated Graphics

1 GB RAM

160 GB HDD and then the usual . . .

Considering i put windows 7 and all and the notebook that i am buying does not come with a OS, will it be easy to find drivers for various components. I had a tough time finding drivers for my vista pre installed toshiba laptop when i installed XP in that.

yes!

windows 7 has an excellent driver database and drivers for weirdest hardware parts are automatically installed also microsoft would notify you through windows update if there are any new drivers for any of your hardware(if you use an original version of win 7 i.e!!)

shut your eyes and get the amd u210.

btw i installed win7 ultimate on a 4--5 yr old toshiba equium 15.4 incher with 1gb of ddr2 ram and it worked perfectly----everything worked except the aero interface becasue the the onboard intel 915m didn't have aero 3d support.
