Hi guys,

I need to replace my Canon Powershot A530.

I am looking for a compact camera that is:

  • Easy to use (especially for the tech challenged).
  • Should have advanced features if needed :ohyeah:
  • Compact. Yes, I am also tempted to go for the larger cameras like FZ35..but someone really needs to convince me. I was actually eying the Canon S90 because it is compact and feature packed.
  • Good battery life and fast (I think the S90 does not meet this criteria too well?)
  • Budget, 15K to 24K or whereabouts.

Thanks in advance folks

well if you are willing to go for larger cameras and your budget extends till 24k then you can forget the compacts and head for a DSLR.

Well DSLR is better than compacts in every way.

Sir, and which one would you recommend in that budget? How fast can one learn the dSLR? For a n00b?

Thanks mate. Checking them out.

Edit: Nice pics mate. Among the DSLR cameras, which one can I look at? Canon 1000D?

Edit: Looked around the market place and I see three cameras

Canon 1000D 18-55 lens around 22.5K

Nikon D3000 18-55 VTR kit for around 24.5K

Panasonic FZ35 for 16K grey. But I looked at it and it looks very Chinesse (made in Japan marked)...could it be fake????

Which one should I pick?

Guys please help

Got the FZ35 (over the Fuji H10) for 16.5K in the grey market folks.

I read extensive reviews for the Fuji H10 and was put off by some of the results....so stayed with the tried and the tested Panasonic. Thanks for your help.

Can someone suggest a good carry case for it?

Thanks Aj,

Looking this up. Camera is really good, for the novice, and enough to interest the enthusiast - I am somewhere in between. :-)
dont worry i am also not an expert but its our interest which makes us learn more and more :)
the more photos u take with different setting more confident you get. :)

Enjoy photography:D

Thanks Aj,

I went for the bag recommended by you, ordered it today. I wrote to them, Smartshoppers and they were suggesting the Tamrac 3330 Aero Zoom 30. Wonder why..? Anyways looking forward to the camera bag now.

Edit: AJ mate, I ordered the same bag you got -...not the one they recommended...

Edit2: Guys, I am facing problem with the software that came with the camera, PhotoFunStudio HD 4.0. It keeps crashing on both my PCs, Vista and XP home. Any solutions?
