Graphic Cards Comparision of Graphics Cards

Hi Tech Gurus,

Could you please throw some light on the various parameters (Technical Spec) on which one should compare the various model for graphic cards for a desktop. Also if you could give me some information on what each term like Bus Type, Memory Interface, Memory Support etc means.

Regards,
Kalyan.

Practically speaking, looking at the benchmarks is the simplest and most accurate method.

However looking at core speed, memory speed, number of shader units, memory interface, memory size etc helps.

VALUE FOR MONEY CARDS

Under 7.5k

9600GT

Under 11k

R4850

Over 20k

R4850 CF or Geforce 260

Intriguing... Why do you need this info?

Technical specifications such as Shader Count, Memory Clock, Bus Width, etc. are NOT comparable between NVIDIA and ATI. You cannot reliably use them to compare models b/w the two companies - only relative standings in their own stable, and even then, it isn't indicative of the frame rates that you can expect for any game.

If you need this info to purchase a graphics card, then the best idea is to post your budget, the resolution you intend to play at, and info about your other system components.

The list 'lite' posted above is fairly accurate (IMHO) except for Over 20k range.

The NVIDIA GTX 260 (216 cores) sells for ~ $250 - ~Rs 15k via KMD. It is on par with ATI's 4870 (1 GB memory) which sells for about the same price.

2 x 4850 isn't recommended unless you plan to play at full HD (1920x1200) resolutions or beyond, since you'll be wasting money.
