I have hathway internet connection. After logging into the internet and opening any browser or any application that connects to the net computer hangs. I have no other option but to restart the computer again. My os is winxp with sp-2. after restarting everything works fine. please solve my problem

What if you open such apps before logging on?

Can you tell us what happens when you try to access a website from your browser BEFORE logging in?

COMPUTER hangs only when the lan card and the network is on. if the network is off any browser does not hangs. i think this the problem with the hathway server because when you login the first time and open any application that connects to the net data goes via hathway server.

zone alarm has no issues with 24 online client afaik.
now do as king saab says :P does ur broswer hangs still while ur not logged in if no then uninstall the firewall and make a clean install of the client too in a diff directory.
if possible post the process screenshot here.
if the browser still hangs then try disbaling firewall and see if it still hangs then run a virus and antu spyware scan and get back to us.

as soon as u connect check in task manager for a process that takes maximum CPU power like 100% or > 95%. If there is any such process google for it and u should know the prankster. Also which browser u use ?? Scan for some Adware or stuff.

yes..open the task manager & see which app is taking max CPU when u open the browser...!
by hanging what do u mean...a blue screen??
does the 'cap lock' led on your keyb work at that point?
if it is working it means the system is not hanged yet..:D
some app may be eating away all the CPU resourse...
when this is happening..post a screenshot of taskmanager..

Ok, this is my guess. I use to have this problem when using a dial up modem (which I assume you are not).To fix this I moved the modem to another slot. It has to do with the assigned line crashing with something else.

I could be wrong.

Im not expert but when I had exatt I had the same problem. It was later found out that the new lan card was faulty and I got another one and the prob was solved. In fact a number of ppl who got those batch of lan cards installed had the same problem.

prometheus > ur kinda right these kinda problems rise when u havea irq conflict moving i to a diff pci slot helps definitely.
one more thing if ur getting bsod then only its recommened .. aelse i dont se a point of irq conflicts..
