current system AMD sempron 2400+ with 512MB DDR ram

Upgrading to either AMD X2 or Intel c2D within 25000

Here is my AMD X2 upgrade config
1)Processor : AMD X2 3600 AM2 - Rs 6100
2)Motherboard : ?????
3)RAM : 1GB DDR2 Transcend RAM - Rs 4600
4)DVD-Writer : Sony 820A - Rs 2000
5)Harddisk : 320GB SATA2 Seagate - Rs 5000
6)Speakers : Altec Lansing 251i - Rs 3600
7)Cabinet : Any 450W - Rs 1500
8 )Mouse : Any optical - Rs 250

Please make changes in the config ..
Cant decide the following things
Motherboard - ASUS or MSI or Gigabyte ASUS M2NPV-MX good ?
DVD writer Sony 820 good or benq
Harddisk - how to know NCQ supported or not
speakers - need tight bass , clear quality sound

If possible give C2D equalent within the budget with those 8 things.
My friend hacker2005 says to go with GIgabyte GA-M55plus (rev 3.x)

ASUS has heat problems , 5.1 soundmax is not good , PCI ports less

ANyone know whether gigabyte has TV-out option or not and do they provide
the cable for it???

Altec lansing has very short cables. SO any other good speakers?
 
If going for C2D, cabby+psu for 1500/- is not good. you need a good ATX2 PSU 500W or 550W PSU (500w is the peak load, not actual supply, so a 500w generic PSU can supply approx 420~440W)

HDD's Hitachi(IBM), WesternDigital are good brands.

Go for Lite-On DVD-RW+ with lightscribe, which should be around 3k

Gigabyte mobo, because they're not only cheaper, supports OC and Siemens-Fujistu owns it.

where ?, here single 1GB DDR2 533 is around 5300~7000.

4)Zebronics 400W cbinet - rs 1300
5)iball full extended multimedia keyboard + optical mouse combo - Rs 530
6)Sony DVD writer DRU-120C (box packed) - Rs 2100
7)altec lansing VS 3251 5.1 speakers (with wireless remote) - Rs 3800 (bymistakenly given VS3251 instead of 251:clap: )
8)1GB transcend DDR2 - Rs 5100 ( not available )

note::

gigabyte mobo heats up a lot .
SATA no speed difference
SOnt dvd writer giving sounds,read speeds are less,writing speed is good (trying to get it exchanged for liteon)
altec lansing VS3251 not at all good.. stay away from cheap 5.1 .. better to get mercury, frontech 5.1 .. and do not waste money on these..nothing special in it at all .. bass is muddy at high volume

Altec Lansing 251 > VS3251 > Frontech/Mercury 5.1

in sound quality.

Try to get the VS3251 replaced by 251. 251 is far better than VS3251.

Plz dont compare Frontech and Mercury with Altec Lansing. :) They just are not on the same league.
 
stay away fropm seagate- buy hitachi- thats my two cents. I have 2 80 gb busted seagate, one 20 gb busted seagate, one fujitsu grandpa 20 gb oldest still going strong and one 80 gb hitachi for two years, still fine.

My personal experience seagate - too much probs. But there warrant service is good - but it cant get your data back.

altec 251 is not available anymore i think and it costs - Rs 3900
VS3251 is new improved 251 model costs - Rs 5500

VS3251 has wireless remote wehreas 251 model nothing.
VS3251 has headphone jack at frontwoofer wehreas 251 has nothing.
VS3251 has 70W total continuous woofer power where 251 has 60W total continuos power

how can u say 3251 < 251

Seagate 320GB SATA is very slow .. may be it needs to be RAIDed ..

bcoz currently it took me 45 min :mad:
 
just because it took u 45 mins doesnt mean that the hdd is slow...

i installed it in almost 30 mins a week or so back

i did it on the x2 3600 1gig ddr2 (600 something speed...667 was it)...
segate 320 7200.10 sata2
asus m2npvm-vm. watever that model is ... the 6150 chipset one...

it was good man...
and ya the question abt hdd... 4.4k where?? i really doubt that it is so cheap...

^^^lol... not 251 but 251i is available everywhere at CTC:bleh:

and you can never compare RMS rating with the sound reproduction:tongue:
 
Why on earth do you want to go for a AM2? Go for a C2D 6300 it would cost a couple of thousands more, but what you get is worth AM 2 4200+ and with OC it can beat the hell outta 5000+ X2.

251i is better or VS3251
tell fast

some guys here say ,, see the RMS rating and buy :mad: really crap altec vs3251 gives headeche

1. VS3251 replaced 251. It does not mean that its improved over 251. :)

2. Wireless remote does not mean anything to sound Quality. Right? Its just a convinience.

3. I am using the amplified headphone jack on my 251 to connect my HP805 headphones.

4. The RMS rating indicates the power output the speakers are capable of and not in anyway related to sound reproduction quality.

All I said was that 251 is a more balanced set with better sound reproduction. I dont know about 251i, but what I heard is that that variations of 251 introduced into specific markets and some of these are inferior to the original 251 (without any prefixes or suffixes). Get the original 251 if its available or stick with your current set.

Also all multi speaker systems will need some tuning to make them sound to your liking. So you should spend some time on that. :)
 
yes original 251 is not available anymore.. its variant 251i which has less RMS than the original is available ..
im going to stick with creative 5.1 inspire or any mercury/frontech high end model.

I have tuned altec lansing from yesterday .. till now i think bass is very weak.. the beats are not effective.. my old frontech2.1 used to be better which used to give tight fast paced bass .. altec vs3251 really horrible
 
251 has a seperate knob for bass on the backside of sub woofer. I dont know whether VS3251 has this control, so just check it. but even with the knob turned pretty low on my 251, the bass is window shattering.
 
got rid of that shit

seen ALtec 251i demo .. very inferior to VS3251

creative 5.1 inspire is better with per satellite sound split ..but sux bass when kept above middle

taken frontech 5.1 home theatre - Rs 5600
Frontech - Best of its kind

RMS 90W .. sound production is crystal clear ..bass is tight and no distorted bass even at high volume .. has vide LED display of all settings .. comes with wireless remote which has A - Z options which u wont find in altec , creative
,equalizer builtin,per satellite sound control,ability to make tweak any setting like frequency of audio , bitrate.. all in wireless remote as well on woofer..
they only thing missing is it doesnt split the sound in a better way compared to creative .. but its house shattering tight bass

advise to any one ... dont buy altec , creative 5.1 .. better go for JBL or bose or if u can afford klispch
 
EDIt : AMD X2 3600 offers no better performace in general computing .. but fast in games, multi use like write , music play .. its good
Gigabyte mobo is good .. temparatures always around 40C and has good 7.1 sound card which gives same clarity as any basic extenal sound card would give ..
