A friend of mine wants to upgrade. Have suggested him the below config based on the suggestions given TE members. pls give ur comments and suggestions. He wont be overclocking and will use it for moderate gaming.

Intel E7200 - 5.8 k
Biostar GF7050- 2.1 K
2 X 1 Trasncend Ram - 2.2
Zebronics Bijli - 1.2 K

Pls suggest which graphics card between 9600 GSO and 8600 GT. Also suggest the PSU.

9600GSO any day

Get a VX450 or a POV 500W would do perfectly fine for the rig :)

Ask ur friend to spend a lil more and get a Biostar P35 chipset if possible :)

Yup, as he said get a P35 chipset based motherboard like the Biostar TP35D2-A7 for around 4.4k; yields a better performance the nv7050 board anyday!! :)

Get the Corsair VX450 for 3.6k or if he's in a budget the Coolermaster 460w for 1.9k which a TE mod'd reviewed yest: http://www.techenclave.com/reviews-and-previews/cooler-master-extreme-power-plus-460w-111983.html

And the 9600GSO is better than the 8600GT; cost's hover around 6k odd; :)

tight on budget so will go for Coolermaster 460w . will this support 9600 GSO and may be 9600 GT(for future upgrades).

Can u pls let me know the diff between biostart p35 and G7050.

1. Yes it will; 36A on dual +12v rails so not an issue but anything more than a 8800GT for a future upgrade might require a PSU change as well; :p

2. 4.4k-2.1k=2.3k is the difference; :)

the only prob is that he is on a tight budget. if he goes for a p35 mobo say abit or Biostar than he will have to go for 8600gt. will it be worth the compromise?

Try a P35 or even a G33 chipset based Motherboard for your config. I am suggesting the G33 because you have the safety of onboard graphics, and you mentioned that your friend wont be overclocking.

For graphics- buy the best that fits in your budget. a 9600GSO is better than a 8600 GT. What is the monitor size that will be used with this config?

dont compromise on gfx it will hurt u later .. compromise on the mobo ... go for the 9600GSO

Since you have mentioned that he is a Moderate and not Hardcore Gamer, I think you shouldn't compromise in Motherboard. Instead compromise a bit on GPU...

yeps go for biostar mobo p35 chipset....n 8600gt if u r really tight on budget go for mercury 8600gt for 3.2k:D......an overclocked 7200 on p35 chipset shud outperform 9600gso IMO....9600gso is arnd 6k odd
so biostar mobo 4.4k+3.2k 86gt= 6.6k
7050 mbo + 9600gso = 8.3k

thanks huys for ur replies. here is the final config

intel 7200 5.8 K
Biostar TP35D2-A7 - 4.4 k
Coolermaster 460w for 1.9k
Zebronics Bijli - 1.2 K
8600 Gt - 4.5 K

one final question about ram. which one of the two shud i go for ?
Kingston / Trasncend / Gskill

and is it better to go for 2* 1gb modules or single 2 gb module. ?

^^Transcend would do just fine.

2X1 is much better than Single 2GB stick , because of the dual channel archi every mobo has now.

P.S a small note, the Biostar has 3-Phase PWM, and it may not sound very much now , but when u OC the Proccy(damn it rhymes :D,which he will i hope) the performance may not be all that great. With 700 more he can get the Proven IP35-E and be happy with it :)

the biostar is a proven Oc'er... should hold out just fine for mild/moderate ocing.. :)

also.. getting a single 2gig stick keeps the possibility of a simpler future upgrade possible.
