Confused about scope of BA {Hons} German

Hello my TE friends!

I am in a very typical situation right now. I am in desperate need of help.

Actually i completed my +2 this year with science stream. I have qualified the entrance exam of GGSIPU Delhi engg in which i will definitely be getting an engg college but there is no assurity of good one, except govt colgs all IP colgs are same.

Secondly, i gave DU's entrance test for Foreign language study which offers four languages: german, french, spanish and italian. Fortunately i qualified it and got german in first counselling only, german is most demanded language amongst the students. There were only 34 seats in german and same for all others for which i qualified out of ~3300 students.

Now, problem is that i am confused about the future or job after this course. It is a 3 yr bachelor course. [ BA (Hons) German]

I don't know why but i am greatly interested in this course but parents are forcing for Engineering, if i can prove my parents the future prospects of this course then they will not stop me from doing it.

So guy and galz plz HALP MEEE!
 
Simple course of action..

Get into engineering, do your foreign language course through the Max Mueller Bhavan in your city. They offer multiple certification levels. Also, a certification from them will carry a lot more weight than a degree.

PS - What is your intention behind getting a degree in German?

My intention is to get a good job just after the completion of it and then work if my pay is good :p and iff needed doing MBA after it(atleast after 2-3yrs).

My main and only concern is that are there good job opportunities after completion of it. I have positive attitude towards this because there are only 34 seats in whole Delhi and only one DU college(North Campus) offers it, DU is India's most sought after university.
 
I am really not sure about the true scope of learning a foriegn language. As far as I know the knowledge of foreign language is considered as an additional qualification. So it makes sense if you do this simultaneously with some other regular course instead of doing this alone. The employment options are available in teaching, diplomatic services, travel and tourism, air hostesses and flight stewards, interpreters, translators in Government sectors, industries and Research Organizations, in hotels, multi-national companies and as Public Relation Officers. Don't know about you but none of these jobs appeal to me. :p Some of these may be high paying jobs but they sound quiet boring to me. :p Don't opt for a course just because you've got a good rank, analyze the pros and cons of every course and make your decision on the basis of what you like and not your rank.
 
I don't know much about foreign language degrees but I doubt you will even land up with a job after one.

What is your rank in IP? Although the college matters little, it does matter to some extent.

Other engg exams?

Go for engg or any other better course in DU.
 
Rather than see your rank etc , try to find where your interest lies , if you are really passionate about German , take it up , if you work hard , you will get a job , but dont take just because there are few seats etc
 
H_D your parents are right....Finish Engineering then you can go for a foreign language degree.... You have to be practical . You can learn German whenever you want.

Yeah, my idea is that if you are actually interested in something enough to impress a stranger then you can go for it. The problem is that few people can do that at that age.

Professional courses are the easy way out(once you get in) and so perfect for us ordinary people.
