Confused between a camcorder and Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35?

Beginner
I want to buy a basic HD camcorder to capture some beautiful moments of my 2 months old kid... At the same time I need a good camera also.... but i cant afford the two simultaneously...

My mind stuck with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 digital camera.. I have one doubt.. If i buy this camera, can i use it as a replacement for camcorder since it can shoot 720p HD videos? :S

Is there any problem if i use this camera for continuously shooting videos?
 
i just ordered an FZ35 2 days ago. It ll be here by 2moro.

i was searching for reviews, videos etc on same.

Got around 100 youtube videos on same. The videos seems amazing. I think it can replace entrylevel camcoders.

Moreover it has great zoom out of the box, unlike DSLRs and has reasonable good photo quality for the price too, although u cant compare it to any DSLR.

Anyway, for normal usage its good enough. Its almost as good as entry level DSLRs like 1000D except at higher ISO levels [400 and greater]. Also shutter speed is limited to 1/2000 and that too at f8 only, but 1/1000 at f4 seems good enough.

I would say, go for it. There are very little cams out there which excels both in vid and pic and still be as cheap as 20k. You can shoot any length videos provided ur battery has enough charge and u have a high capacity card in it.

i ll bring a short review in 3~4 days once i get my hands on it.

It can record videos and that too in great quality, what you would have to worry about is the battery life in continuos recording... am not sure how long does that lasts......
 
get a class 6 card . , video is great for watching and youtube, low light is a problem but just get some light in it and the camera is happy , also another problem is pointing it directly at light , you get the purple streaks.....

but i also bought this to take the kid pics and its very good so far

Does this camera allows zooming when shooting videos?? any options for videos available or just point and shoot only??

I am from Kerala and I just called the panny guys in Kerala for a quote in price.. But they r not even bothered.. told me to call again in three days...

From where can i buy it online? Do online trading is secure?? pls give ur inputs////
 
heard its has really great battery life. It boasts of 470 shots on single charge, while canon and other's with 4x Aa batteries claim 200~300 max.

Also in reviews, they say on a 45 min continuous video test, the battery indicator hasnt moved a bit. Seems like a good sign.

solardigitalcam of ebay - quoting 18300/- with 1 year dealer warranty.

smartshoppers.in - quoting 18745/- with 6 months dealer warranty..

as I am from kerala smartshoppers.in is more near to me comparing to solardigitalcam.... :S

what to do!!!!
 
The courrier was a mess. I got it via ebay, and they shipped it via tnt, and they didnt have a branch in my town. So it was delayed by 2 days and finally got it today from some local courier.

btw, the pic and video quality is amazing. You need 2 days to learn all settings inside out. Some of the problem ive seen on videos is the focusing inside videos when subject is changed seems bit sluggish, but heard it has one of the fastest among such cams in this category, but once focused, the quality is amazing. The zoom is surelly great, and there isnt much loss in quality. I recommend you get a tripod as well.

The cam is there at ebay with warranty for around 19k. Get a tripod for les than 1k. :)
 
after too much research i finally bought the panasonic DMC FZ 35 from Smart Shoppers - Digital Cameras, Camera Lenses | Buy Latest Laptops, MP3 Players, Ipods in India.

I got it yesterday and now playing with its settings.. But I am not quietly satisfied with the image quality of the camera.. But the manual I got with the camera is in some other language.. So dont know what to do!!!

Does any setting I need to change for increasing the image quality?

as I am newbee can anyone guide me? If needed I can post some of the pics took using the camera..
I compared the image quality with my old canon powershot A410, 3.2 megapixel camera...
