CPU/Mobo Confused between Phenom II 965 & Core i5 750

dont even try to run your rig on that PSU..

or prepare for fireworks..

CM Extreme isn't good. It kills the rig along with it when overloaded. But corsairs and other psus shut themselves down when overloaded. Also, good psus like corsair ones give more output than labelled, whereas extreme power dies to give even labelled wattage. In other words overrated.

I am also running my rig on the Extreme Power 600 but i am still waiting for fireworks..Will it happen only on diwali?

BTW My specs are like these :-

AMD Phenom x4 965 (Oced to 3.9 Ghz stable 24x7)

MSI 790GX-G65

G.Skill 2x2GB (1600)

CM Hyper 212+

WD 1TB Sata + 500 GB Seagate Barracuda

MSI HD4870

2 Highflow 120MM Delta Fans

5 Amigo 120 MM LED Fans + Fan controller

And the PSU hasn't given up. If it is able to take that load i don't think thats bad for a PSU. Also it saves $$ for your pocket. But on this forum specifically everyone is after corsair as if god came to earth and said "Always go with Corsair, Everything else is a piece of crap".. Is it?

I'm not sure when your rig is gonna celebrate diwali, but i'm pretty sure that it's gonna do and it isn't gonna celebrate safely like you, it's gonna celebrate with all its friends inside the cabinet and will take all of them straightly into grave yard along with it. Your load isn't sufficient. Try loading it to full 600W or high and you can get diwali at the same instant.
Yeah, I agree, everyone doesn't want to spend money on the expensive corsairs, for that people here suggest glacial power and others. Also, no one here has asked anyone to change the psu if he had a real power or silent pro. Extreme power is being condemned. Members here don't want people to put their whole rig to risk just for the sake of saving 1k. Don't recommend it to others just because you own it.

Tasks he will be doing..

1. Encoding videos for his iPod (can be done with a gfx card, I know that)

2. Playing games like Cryis, Modern Warfare 2 etc.

3. Compiling apps on Linux, sometimes kernels too

4. SHOW OFF

5. Net browsing

6. Ripping DVD's and Audio CDs

7. Watching Porn :D

ya i knw Corsair fanboys.....I agree with tht. Cm extreme series are better than generice PSUs - thts the only apprciation they can get.
But I still say tht PSU is junk. I blew up one of my frnds......and I can show u how to blow Urs.

Plz read tht VX 450 Vx Ep 600w thread bfr commenting.

EDIT:Tommorow ur post is gonna be bashed :p

Ok.. will not GO for CM 600 W extreme.. how about Cooler Master Real Power Pro 460.. I read a nice review by JayMathers.. what are your views on it??

I have RP 460w and and till now I was unable to find out difference between VX 450 and RP 460w other than slight difference in efficiency graph .....plz google that and chk it out.

only flaw with RP 460w is shot cable......at least for me bcoz i have put tht in stacker.....If u dont care abt warranty GP 650w AL 2 4.3k~ is the best buy.....Superb PSU for the price.

RP 460w @ 3.6k
VX 450w @ 4.1k
GP 650w @ 4.3k~

Try mediahome.in for prices.
He offers some crazy prices!
Whereas amarbir`s audio products-india's best!

Can psu's like giga superb/cm 460w/cx400 handle a 4890 and phenom/i5?

You might be an expert in blowing PSU's but i am not the ones who like to do that. I guess i will have to be a complete moron if i wish to do that willingly. So consider me out.

Don't recommend it to others just because you own it.

Everyone here knows a PSU cannot be 100% efficient. Why should i give a load of 600W or more to it when it cannot handle it anyways? Ha ha i can't stop laughing:rofl: Just dont say anything just for the heck of it to prove your point.

BTW what PSU do you own? Lemme guess MIGHTY CORSAIR?

^^

Efficiency has nothing to do with how much load is placed, and how much a PSU can sustain before 'blowing up'.

Dude you dont have to draw 600W to overload your PSU, it can overload at lower Wattage also as the manufacturer gives rating for each rail. And nobody willingly overloads his system! It is just that people want some safety margin or headroom. Yes its pointless to say get a 1200W PSU for it! But what you expect is if there is overloading, the PSU should SHUTDOWN and not explode. So CM 600 is not Bad if you have a system that will never pull 550+ but the suggestions are to be on safer side as price differences are not that high.

@ OP: CPU performance wise I5 is better than PII 965 but if you are limited on budget you can get a good system on PII 965 as Mobo is cheaper, so spend money on other stuff.

This Guy cant be argued with, leave him alone. He is not even trying to read what is posted.......and i have asked him to atleast read the stickies.:S

No one will buy a "CM Extreme power+ 600W" for 3.5k when there alternatives like FSP 500w, CM real power pro 460w.

I am very happy u have extreme Power 600w plz enjoy just dont suggest it without correct justifications.

Not everyone can spend 3k+ for corsair etc : agreed .......but there lots of alternatives under 3k frm gigy, FSP(saga series), Seasonic.....So don't say they are VFM
