Hey guys,

I have thought of getting a Sony Handycam. But I am a lot confused.

1) First should i go for a MiniDV model like the one below
Sony India : DCR-HC38E (DCRHC38E) : Details
or a DVD model like
Sony India : DCR-DVD708E (DCRDVD708E) : Details
I heard MiniDV's are better quality but would dat be noticeable in below megapixel Handycam's.

2) Secondly, if I go for the DVD models, should i go for the 1.07 megapixel model
Sony India : DCR-DVD708E (DCRDVD708E) : Details
or 800K model
Sony India : DCR-DVD608E (DCRDVD608E) : Details
What would be the difference in quality between the two?

Also, i want to appreciate views from people using these or equivalent handycams as to what would be the video quality i can expect coz i have never used these.

Plz help me out.

Well If your budget allows then go for the next generation High Definition Video Camera OR if u are familiar with converting mini dv to a DVD just go for better mini DV camcorder than a DVD one coz its a total waste.

I would say that it's a royal waste spending money on an SD camera now. How much is your budget? I'd recommend the Canon HV20 for 700$ if you can afford it. It's a miniDV based full hi-def camcorder and for 700$ it's a steal!

id assume ur from india (from the sony india links provided in the begining) and so tracer i guess canon hd cams out of the question (at rates uv mentioned).. and id suggest to skip mini dv an dvd camcorders now.. the disks an all are a big pain the ass..

wat id suggest i look for a new sony hdd camcorder (its model is 65e or something an its mrp is 29,990) go check it out.. i feel hdd are a whole lot more easier to use (only downside a lil more fragile)..

clown_abhi's ,

If u are thinking to get a HDD cam then check the prizes in grey market.u will get it at least 25% lesser than its MRP on Sony site.
