Laptops connecting laptop and desktop wirelessly

i have a linksys wrt54g wireless router.my laptop compaq v5000 is able to connect wirelessly on to it.also my desktop computer is connected via ethernet to the dsl modem.both of them are able to access the internet simultaneously.
but the problem is that i am not able to share files between laptop and desktop.i have already made desirable folders shareable on both configurations.but i am not able to see the desktop computer when i connect to network from laptop.
i want to share some folders and also be able to burn a dvd on my desktop from my laptop if it is possible.
 
Simple...The XP firewall on both machines is not setup to allow file and printer sharing..

BTW Burning DVD by using data from a machine conncted over wireless LAN is not advisable as the actual data transfer rates are much slower than DVD burning speeds...thus not only would the burn process take ages but the chances of burning a coaster are also very high
