@red dragon - My friend's parents have tested positive after few days of taking their second dose of Covishield vaccine. I am not sure if it's mere coincidence or something else. His father is now admitted in hospital while his mother is being treated at home. What do you think?

No idea, some people is having mini Corona attacks with vaccination. My wife had a moderately severe one. But we were tested negative.
Many of my friends in India were tested positive weeks after 2 dose ( mostly minor disease)
How old are they?

His father is 72 years and mother is 68 years.

Just wanted to know your view on one more thing. As his father is admitted in hospital he has been advised to be treated with Actemra (tocilizumab), does that really work for Covid patients? What has been your experience.

My dad (71 years) had got his first dose of vaccine 17 days back. I don't know if it is delayed side effect but he started getting fever 3 - 4 days back and he is quarantined. BMC here told no point doing test as it will come positive 100% due to him taking vaccine few days back.
His fever is now few and far and doctor suggested azithromycn and ivermectin and usual zinc and vit c tablets and 14 days quarantine.

Should I have mum (64) vaccinated? I remained with my guts and didn't let her take it. But present situation is actually scary. The dentist she went to said - yes sure take the vaccine but when I asked whether there will be any long term effect he was like well we cannot say at this point but something is better than nothing. Not sure what to do!

At a time when nothing is sure what works and what not, vaccine is your best bet. Atleast it will build up her defences incase she has a load rather than having no protection.
Even my Dad was sceptical, I guess there really is no much choice. You don't want to end up being guilty when you had the chance.
Atleast, you have vaccine available (assuming). My friend is running pillar to post to get his parents vaccinated.

This happened with one of my frnd's Dad. He took his 1st dose (CovidSheild) and after that he had fever and diabetes level went very low. Doc suggested him to get admitted and while RTPCR report came positive. He was shifted to another hospital where he survived for 7 days and passed away couple of days back.

People with comorbidities should avoid taking vaccine for now.

Not really. People with comorbidities should avoid taking vaccine for now. I have seen couple of cases where people who vaccine who has BP and Dietetics died after taking 1st dose of Vaccine.
Just to add they had no issues before taking vaccine.

If your Mom has any heart related disease please avoid vaccine for now.

She might. In past 2 years she has had two episodes of tachycardia (pulse reaching 200). Doctor advised a ECHO in June last year which is still pending. Her BP was high at that time as still (140/86). I'll have the echo done soon. Provided that report is fine, then I guess it's better to take the vaccine!

In that case I would suggest you to keep vaccination on hold.

Tocilizumab is IL6 inhibitor so theoretically it should work in cytokine storms.
But all the major trials I know of are in phase 3.
I myself used in a very few patients ( but I was treating covid patients almost a year ago and I'm not a good clinician)

My aunt had heart attack 2019, thyroid patient, BP. Completed her second dose on 14th April, age 61.
Dad, a BP patient completed his 2nd dose today, age 75.
Again, there will always be ifs and buts. Best is to consult your mom's regular doctor as seek his/her opinion about getting vaccination.

Thanks for your response. The medication itself is hardly available anywhere in India, so they are also looking at trying Plasma therapy.

@red dragon

Is it true that quarantine period is 14 days as my (one's) ability to spread virus goes away / diminishes greatly post 14 days ? I am currently under quarantine and this sunday 14 days get over for me from the date when I got positive report.
