hey .. i am using a core 2 duo on a asus mobo .. the problem is that recently i had opened my Core for cleaning .. bt afta that the prob is that whenever i am running many apps together there is an automated shut down .. which is really disturbing .. is it cuz of high temp ?? i had installed an extra fan to the cpu .. bt it dint give any effect !!

Or is it coz of the thermal paste ??

Thank You

Hey hey slow down

Now begin from start go online and download a basic system temperature detection program like the HWMonitor or a trial version of AIDA 64 :), links are given below

AIDA64 | PC Benchmark | System Diagnostics | Network Inventory

CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

If you detect horrible inconsistency in them retrace your steps, as for applying TIM < Thermal Interface Material ~ CPU PASTE ) don't smother your chip with it apply the most thin layer possible, so that on an even spread you can see the CPU enclosure as if you are looking through a fog and redo on the surface of heatsink, then if it is metallic in nature don't let the paste drip onto the board or the circuit will short out and your system will go :dead:, also excess CPU Paste does not mean better heat transfer it is detrimental to it on the contrary, hope this solves your problem :)

just check your cpu temps, if its normal temps are 50+ then open your cabby, remove your hsf, clean the TIM using cleaning agent (alcohol, don't consume :P) reapply a fresh thin layer of TIM, attach hsf, check temp
