hello guys my friend want to buy this card in teh near future in chennai. Can u plz tell me about its HW acceleration, its price and performance ??..

He wants it for gaming... He opted for this since it has HW accel...

its a great VFM sound card. Wayyy better than any on-board audio.

Priced at around 1.4k - 1.6k, i would say go for it now.

Xonar DX (Rs.5k) is the next option incase the following requirements are met:

Your friend should have headphones worth 4k+ or speakers worth 6k+

Your friend shouldnt have a problem in spending 5k more on some audio improvement.

Personal opinion: Creative Audigy value for now, then if really really feel the need (incase of very hi-end headphones/speakers, then shift to Xonar)

I am not sure abt HW acceleration bcoz mine was disabled in GRID.
Xtremegamer @ 3-3.5k is also a very good choice and has lot of features incl DTS, EAX 4.0, HW acceleration etc..

Yes there is a lot of improment in games with a external soundcard w=evn audigy 2

Guys, i guess he's asking about Audigy 2 and not Audigy (1.8k).

Audigy 2 doesn't have significant improvements over Audigy but is costlier. For value solution, i would definitely reccommend the Audigy.

EAX is available in games with Audigy but HA not sure and btw why do u need HA anyways? :p

Games and graphics cards have come a long way than being dependent on sound cards for performance. :cool2:

No mate. HW Acceleration is a must which will give realistic sound. Moreover the proccy resources wont be eaten. My friend is longing for years for the HWA sound cards rates to come down.

And I myself cant believe how all of a sudden it is available for 1.4k - 1.6k. Even i myself may buy 1 dumping my yamaha 7mf724 sound card after seeing the performance of that...

B4 that one question. Will the Creative audigy 2 value be better than my yamaha ymf724 ?. Because this old sound card m having it for years and m much impressed of its HW acceleration and crystal clear sound and moreover it works in win 7 and vista !!!

if it is really an audigy 2 value, then it will have HW acceleration
If its an audigy value, it wont, so make sure before putting your money down

I guess realistic sound is a very particular phrase. U would need a good card, a good set of speakers and good acoustics to get the perfect sound. A mismatch spoild the entire setup.

HW acceleration is not mandatory for good sound reproduction.

As far as i am aware, only if it is onboard audio, does CPU works, else CPU is offloaded to the sound card. EAX for gaming is there in audigy platinum which would cost ~2k and audigy value ~1.6k. So, i guess u get to use that feature in all games as i can use it too.

Well, if u have a good set of speakers, its always good to go for a X-Fi or Xonar cards. They are exceptionally good as far as i have heard from others.
If u are planning to change a card in value segment, just go for Audigy value. Else, with good speakers get the Xonar.

And don't expect any noticeable fps increases.

Guys, correct me if i am wrong regarding HW acceleration in sound. :)
