Dell's Blu-ray equipped notebook starts at $879

Most movie fans that have made the jump to HDTVs are glad that the format war that raged between Blu-ray and HD DVD is over. The HD fans out there who bet on HD DVD may be a bit upset at the outcome, but on the whole the win for Blu-ray is good for everyone.

With Blu-ray as the winner, more competition between Blu-ray makers should help to drive prices of the players down allowing more consumers to adopt the Blu-ray format. The first indication of a change in pricing for Blu-ray equipped notebooks came from Dell when it announced today that its Inspiron 1525 notebook with Blu-ray now starts at $879.

The Inspiron 1525 is a 15.4-inch notebook with a wide aspect ratio screen capable of 720p playbacck and features a HDMI output. The Blu-ray player Dell uses in the 1525 can also burn CD and DVD as well as play standard DVD movies.

Dell uses Broadcom Media PC technology to allow the integrated graphics machine to be able to play Blu-ray titles. HD playback is enabled through a built-in dedicated accelerator in the systems mini-card slot.

Dell offers the 1525 in three colors including Sunshine Yellow, Midnight Blue and Ruby Red. Buyers can also choose from designs including Chill, Blossom and Commotion.

dude dell inspiron in india already has options for blue ray drives.. an they arent for 60k... theyd cost u anythin startin from 40k.. also the deal is tat although these laptops come wit blueray drives, they dont hav hd screens..an anythin wit screen size less tan 30" its real hard 2 distinguish between 720p an 1080p..

oh an btw the dell laptops advertised so boldly in the first article does nt really break any price barrier per se cause the laptop actually available for like $900 (wit blue ray) is a crappy celeron.. u can get a better value for money here in india comparatively.. all jus a part of dell's marketing strategy..!!

lol BR here at the moment is 23.2k addon. Hope dell makes it cheaper addon option soon following this development in states.

^^^ dude try configurin a inspiron 1420.. the cheapest blue ray option is for 8k on it... although i doubt if it can burn blue ray discs.. but its a blue ray drive none the less..

This is an indiacation that BLUE Ray Optical drives for cheaper prices are hitting retail markets sooner then later... But to give it a real kick start would be the introduction of a Decently priced Blue Ray writer along with Moderately priced Blue Ray Media :)...

But this is a good start for all that non the less...
